Dr Julie Byrne is helping to shape European policy discussions on the future of digital skills and talent development.

Earlier this year, she led a policy workshop at Digital Skills EU Days in Brussels as part of the LEADSx2030 consortium, bringing together European Commission officials and stakeholders from across the DIGITAL Europe Programme. This week, those conversations continue at Trinity as the University hosts Digital Talent EU Days on 15-16 October.

What does it mean to grow old in a society where many people can expect to live to be 100?

In her inaugural lecture at Trinity College Dublin, Professor Virpi Timonen examined the profound changes that longer lives are bringing to our families, workplaces, social policies and communities.

The lecture marked an important milestone in her academic career and showcased research that has helped shape international debates on ageing, care and intergenerational relationships.

We were delighted to welcome Bachelor in Social Studies alumni Lisa Dignam, Jamie McDonagh and Ella Hudson back to Trinity this week to speak with our second-year students about frontline child protection practice.

Now working with Tusla, they shared honest insights into the realities, rewards and challenges of the role, while helping to dispel some common myths about child protection work.

A big thank you to our speakers and to module lead Sinead Tobin, also a BSS graduate, for organising such an engaging session. Special credit also to our students for their thoughtful questions and lively discussion.

Trinity College Dublin will mark International Safe Abortion Day on 28 September by illuminating the façade facing College Green from 8pm.

The initiative follows a submission from the School of Social Work and Social Policy and reflects research on reproductive policy and rights led by Dr Catherine Conlon.

Trinity joins public institutions across Ireland and Europe in this initiative, which is supported in Ireland by the National Women's Council and the Center for Reproductive Rights. International Safe Abortion Day is a global day of action advocating for access to safe and legal abortion care and is recognised by the United Nations, the World Health Organization and governments worldwide.

The day provides an opportunity to recognise progress in reproductive healthcare while highlighting the barriers to care that remain.
