The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee had requested me in November to be the Chief Executive of GTA. The members of GTA Sabha and the councillors of the Darjeeling Municipality has also passed a resolution wanting me to be the Chief Executive of GTA. There have been many posters and letters by "janta" asking me to be the Chief Executive of GTA.

Today I have decided to be GTA chief executive of GTA keeping in mind all the above requests and mainly for the people of Darjeeling.

The 40 days of strike has made us understand that GTA is the stepping stone to Gorkhaland. The smooth running of GTA will ensure peace, stability and development in the hills.

GTA is a powerful tool to empower local youth and to bring about development in the Hills.

I will know run the GTA and change the face of Darjeeling and fulfil the aspirations of all Gorkhas.

I will take my oath as Chief Executive of GTA on 26th December in Kolkata. - Bimal Gurung Official
