Following the Bikram Sambat calendar (56 years, 8 months ahead), Naya Barsha reminds us how deeply time, culture and community are intertwined.
For the Indian Gorkha community, this isn’t just a new year but a celebration of identity, heritage and belonging.

As time moves forward, yet carries with it the warmth of old songs, the scent of incense, and the laughter shared over simple meals. For the Indian Gorkha community, this is not just a turning of the calendar but a joyous return to memory, to belonging, to home.

Let us come together and celebrate. 🌄🤍🤗✨

All India Gorkha Students Association had the opportunity of organising a special speaker with Lt. Col Barsha Rai (Retd.) ma’am.
Glimpses of the session are as follows-
🥟Felicitation of Lt. Col. Barsha Rai(Retd) along with her husband with a khada and a momento.
🥟Recitation of an original Poem by Ahrnish Dahal, one of our core members. His poem "देशमै विदेशी भएँछ" resonated with our shared struggle of identity crisis in our own country.
🥟Ma'am's speech regarding our identity and place in India, how the times were when she was young, her struggles and how she got over them strongly motivated us in our journey as an association and also as individuals.
🥟We had quite an interactive and interesting question hour after the speech. The room was filled with a spectrum of listeners, from defense aspirants to writers, all met satisfaction. A question asked by one of our members, Kesang, left us on an edge. She had asked, "How do we find a balance or an equilibrium point between our regional and national identity?"
Ma'am took her time to explain us that balance in reality doesn't exist, and the few people that judge us and shame us for being different do not represent the entire country, and that we still have many people fighting for us by our side. She emphasized that nation should always come first, for its not that the nation is against us, its just few unworthy citizens.
🥟After the question hour we had the chairman of our drafting committee, Prajal Chetry, explain the constitution to us and to the guests. This also marks the enactment of our constitution and all registered members of this association will be required to abide by it.
🥟We extended our invitation to our guests to be the honorary members of our association which they accepted wholeheartedly.
🥟This wonderful session marked its end by a vote of thanks from the presidents which was followed by an interaction and a group photo session.

Overall if was a successful session filled with curiosity, enthusiasm and energy. We extend a big thank you to each and everyone present there for making it a success, especially to the guests for the gracious presence. This was truly a milestone for us as an association.
