International Day of Mathematics Celebrated at Guru Nanak College, Killianwali

The Department of Mathematics of Guru Nanak College Killianwali, District Sri Muktsar Sahib, celebrated the International Day of Mathematics with great enthusiasm today. The global theme for this year was “Mathematics and Hope.”
On this occasion, an extension lecture was organized to enhance students’ interest and awareness towards mathematics.
In the program, Dr. Manjeet Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Government College Mandi Dabwali, participated as the resource person. He was formally welcomed by Dr. Payal Singla while introducing him to the audience.
In his address, Dr. Manjeet extended greetings on Pi Day and delivered an insightful lecture on the importance of mathematics, the value of Pi, and its applications in different fields. Through his PPT presentation, he explained that mathematics is not limited to numbers and formulas but forms the foundation of logical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific development. He also motivated students to understand mathematics and apply it in practical life.
The Principal of the college, Dr. Surinder Singh Thakur, appreciated the efforts of the Mathematics Department and said that such academic activities inspire students, make subjects like mathematics more interesting and easier to understand, and enrich their knowledge. He thanked Dr. Manjeet for enhancing students’ knowledge on this occasion and honoured him with a memento on behalf of the college.
Teachers and students participated enthusiastically in the program and also interacted with the resource person. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Payal Singla, Head of the Department of Mathematics, who expressed her gratitude to the resource person, the Principal, staff members, and students for making the event successful.
Among those present were Mrs. Amandeep Kaur from the History Department, Mrs. Shalini from the English Department, and Assistant Professor Jagdev Singh from the Punjabi Department. A total of 63 students attended the program.
