The Department of Forestry has organized a two-day National Conference on “Forest Resource Utilization and Management” on 17th and 18th April 2026. The conference witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 150 delegates representing various universities and institutions across the country, with significant representation from the Northeast region.

A total of 101 technical papers were presented during the two-day technical sessions, covering diverse aspects of forest resource utilization, conservation, and sustainable management.

On the occasion, an Abstract Book (ISBN: 978-93-5913-881-8) and “The Canopy”, the annual magazine of the Department of Forestry, NERIST, were officially released.

The conference was sponsored by NERIST, Anusandhan National Research Foundation, Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Arunachal Bamboo Mission, Marjing Dhubri Plywood Factory, NHPC and NEEPCO along with some support from Gtree and Lo-Li Nursery.

The conference also saw active participation from the PG and PhD alumni of the department.

The Department of Forestry is organising a two-day National Conference on ‘𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐔𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭’ (FRUM 2026) on April 17 and 18, 2026. The outcomes of the conference, the deliberations, and research interactions are expected to contribute to improved policy formulation, strengthened community-based forest management, and diversified livelihood opportunities, particularly for indigenous and rural populations of the North Eastern region of India.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Department is organising an alumni meet of the PG and PhD students of Forestry to foster networking, share professional experiences, and strengthen bonds with the alma mater.

NERIST inaugurated the two-day International Conference on Recent Advances in Materials and Emerging Applications (RAMEA 2026) at the Silver Jubilee Hall, Nirjuli (6–7 April 2026), in the presence of eminent dignitaries including Prof. Narendra Nath S., Director, NERIST; Er. C. D. Mungyak, Director, APSCS&T; Prof. Mohan V. Aware, Director, NIT Arunachal Pradesh; and Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO, ANRF.

The speakers highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and research in advanced materials and emerging technologies for sustainable development, with a focus on bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial applications. Key areas include advanced materials, Industry 4.0/5.0, engineering tribology, and multiphysics modelling.

RAMEA 2026 received 329 research paper submissions, with 210 accepted after peer review and 179 presentations scheduled through oral and poster sessions, reflecting strong academic participation.

The conference is supported by Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Oil India Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), and APSCS&T, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, with industry partners including DUCOM Technologies, NEEPCO, and ANE Foundation. It serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and technological advancement.

The Institution’s Innovation Council ( ) of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) organised a field visit to the Technolology Innovation Hub ( ), IIT Guwahati and , Guwahati, with three faculty members, Dr. Tori Basar, Dr. Manoj Das, and Dr. Dheeraj Kumar Yadav and 22 students. At TIH, participants explored advanced labs including E-mobility ROV, Drone Technology, IoT & Robotics, 3D Printing, and EV & PCB, gaining exposure to emerging technologies and research infrastructure.

The session at Assam Startup Nest introduced students to the startup ecosystem, incubation processes, and entrepreneurship opportunities. The visit offered valuable insights into innovation, technology development, and startup culture.

The SAARTHIS of NERIST organised a session under the SAARTHI Activity Calendar 2026 titled “My Credits, My Choice: How ABC enables personalised learning and multidisciplinary Education” on March 31, 2026, at the Seminar Hall, AE Building. Prof. Arnab Bandyopadhyay, ABC Coordinator, NERIST, delivered an insightful talk on the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), emphasising its role in enabling flexible, student-centric and multidisciplinary learning in line with NEP 2020. The programme witnessed the participation of around 45 students, who found the session highly enriching and informative. The interactive discussion helped them better understand academic flexibility, credit transfer, and course choices. Certificates for winners and participants of previous SAARTHI activities were also distributed.
