ABVP Assam University Unit Raises Students’ Academic Concerns

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Assam University Unit, submitted a memorandum to the Hon’ble Registrar, Assam University, regarding the transition of students with backlog/arrear papers into the Fourth Year (7th Semester) of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP).

Many students who have fulfilled the necessary academic requirements for progression may still have backlog papers from earlier semesters. We believe that such students should not be deprived of the opportunity to continue their Fourth Year studies, while being given a reasonable opportunity to clear their pending papers as per University regulations.

Through the memorandum, ABVP has requested the University Administration to:

🔹 Allow students with backlog/arrear papers up to the 6th Semester to transition into the 4th Year of FYUGP without requiring fresh admission or an entrance process.
🔹 Permit students to continue their Fourth Year studies while simultaneously clearing their outstanding papers.
🔹 Establish reasonable academic conditions regarding credits, attendance, registration and completion of backlogs within the prescribed period.

Water Facility Issue Resolved in ECE Department
On 31st July 2026, the ABVP Assam University Unit raised the issue of the drinking water and water cooler facilities in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) through an email to the concerned authorities.
The University Administration took prompt action on the matter. Within three days, all the water filters and drinking water facilities in the ECE Department were repaired and made functional.
The water supply issue in the department’s bathroom was also addressed and resolved.
This timely action has helped ensure that students have access to proper drinking water and water facilities in the department.

Today, the ABVP Assam University Unit submitted a memorandum to the Hon'ble Registrar of Assam University, Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath Sir, requesting the university administration to take appropriate measures regarding the ongoing classes so that no student is deprived of their academic opportunities due to the severe flood situation affecting Upper Assam and several other districts.

The ongoing floods have severely disrupted transportation services, making it extremely difficult for many students to reach the university. Keeping the interests of the student community at the forefront, we urged the university to adopt suitable measures to ensure that no student suffers academically because of circumstances beyond their control.

We express our sincere gratitude to Registrar Sir for his positive response, patient hearing, and kind assurance that the university will take the necessary steps to address this genuine concern.

Following the joint request submitted by the Assam University Students' Union (AUSU) and ABVP Assam University Unit to the Dean, Students' Welfare regarding hostel allotment for students admitted during the ongoing admission process and the declaration of fresh hostel application dates for students admitted in the second phase, the necessary action has been initiated with the issuance of the appropriate notification.

A long-standing demand has finally been fulfilled!

The much-awaited road connecting the Department of Law, Department of Library & Information Science, Boys' Hostel No. 5, the Indoor Stadium, and TSSOT, one of the main routes within the Assam University campus, has finally been completed, bringing much-needed relief to students, faculty members, staff, and all commuters.

The ABVP Assam University Unit expresses its sincere gratitude to the university authorities for ensuring the successful completion of this important work within the stipulated time period.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Assam University Students' Union (AUSU) for its constant follow-ups and persistent efforts, which played a significant role in making this long-awaited development possible.

Today, the ABVP Assam University Unit submitted a memorandum to the Dean, Students' Welfare, Prof. Barunjyoti Choudhury Sir, regarding several important issues concerning the welfare of hostel students. The memorandum highlighted the need for:

• Extension of the hostel application submission deadline.

• Urgent cleaning, repair, and maintenance of all university hostels.

• Enhancement of hostel accommodation by constructing new hostels and expanding the capacity of existing hostels through additional floors and increased seating.

We are grateful to the Dean, Students' Welfare for his positive response and assurance that necessary steps will be taken at the earliest.

Regarding our demand for the extension of the hostel application deadline, Sir assured us that the list of students who have already applied will be published within the next 2–3 days. Following this, a fresh schedule for hostel applications will be announced, allowing newly admitted students to apply. This is a significant step that reflects our initiative to ensure that the hostel allotment process continues alongside the admission process, enabling deserving students to apply without missing the opportunity.

Today, on the occasion of the 78th Foundation Day of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the ABVP Assam University Unit proudly organized a Yoga Session with the enthusiastic participation of more than 70 participants.

The session was conducted under the expert guidance of Shri Ashim Biswas, Yoga Instructor, Dakshin Cachar Zilla Karyavahak, RSS and was graced by the esteemed presence of Shri Manoj Kumar De, Deputy Registrar, Assam University, Silchar. The event also witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Borojalenga, making the celebration even more vibrant and meaningful.

Celebrated as National Students' Day, the programme reaffirmed ABVP's commitment to fostering physical well-being, mental discipline, and holistic development among students while promoting the timeless values of yoga.
