This workshop introduces the science of microbiomes and the power of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), moving beyond textbooks to practical learning.โฃ

A wonderful morning was spent exploring the TDU campus through a guided medicinal plant walk, where 17 participants came together to slow down, observe the plants growing around them, and engage with their stories, ecological roles, and traditional knowledge.

The walk encouraged curiosity, conversation, and close observation - inviting participants to see familiar plants in new ways and build a deeper connection with the landscapes they move through every day. The enthusiasm, thoughtful questions, and shared experiences made the walk especially meaningful.

Participants described the experience as โ€œimmersive,โ€ โ€œinteresting and fun,โ€ and appreciated the opportunity to learn in an informal and interactive setting. Several shared how refreshing it was to revisit plants they encounter daily with a new perspective, while others highlighted the joy of meeting people from diverse backgrounds brought together by a shared interest in nature.

One participant reflected, โ€œIโ€™ll never look at common plants the same way again,โ€ while another noted how encouraging it was to see such walks becoming a regular activity at TDU. Many also appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and the passion and enthusiasm that shaped the morningโ€™s conversations.

We thank everyone who joined us and contributed to making the walk such a lively and engaging experience. We look forward to welcoming you again for future walks and continuing these shared explorations with plants.

Anemia prevention is not just awareness, itโ€™s relationships, conversations, and everyday action.

Under the RIST Project, the Community Health Department is working to reduce the anemia burden in the Nilgiris and Wayanad districts by identifying local NGOs and working closely with them to reach tribal and rural communities.

Through these partnerships, we engage community health workers, enable shared learning, and promote culturally rooted food knowledge. From training rooms to doorsteps, each dialogue brings us one step closer to stronger, healthier communities.

Because lasting change doesnโ€™t happen in a day, it grows through trust.
