🚌 Karatsu & Imari Bus Trip, April 24, 2026 🚌

Our students spent a wonderful day in Saga Prefecture as they visited two famous spots with different sides of the region’s history and culture.

🏯 Karatsu Castle 唐津城
The day began with Karatsu Castle, one of the city’s most well-known landmarks. With the castle our students learned about Karatsu's local history while enjoying beautiful views of the Genkai Sea, Nijinomatsubara, Matsuura Bridge, and the city of Karatsu.

🏺 Okawachiyama 大川内山, Imari
In the afternoon, students visited Okawachiyama, often named as the 'Village of Secret Kilns'. Surrounded by very tall mountains and known for its porcelain heritage, the village gave students a glimpse into Imari’s long tradition of craftsmanship.

The trip was a meaningful opportunity for students to spend time together outside the classroom, take photos, and experience the local beauty of Saga.

Kyushu University International Programs in Law looks forward to exploring more of Japan’s culture and history together with our students.

📚 Intensive Course “Cultural Heritage Law II”
🎓 Kamil Zeidler, Professor, University of Gdansk
🎓 Paula Chmielowska, M.A., M.A., University of Gdansk
🗓️ March 16-19, 2026

During the course, our master students learned about the structure of cultural heritage law and explored important legal debates surrounding the system. The course introduced the theory of conservation of cultural heritage, soft law, the issue of cultural restitution and many other interesting topics. Students also engaged in legal discussions on archaeological cases and whether a restitution claim brought by a country is justified or not.

At the end of the course, all our students gave a presentation on the protection of cultural heritage in their home country. By a universal, equal and secret voting process, our master student from the Philippines 🇵🇭 won first place, congratulations!

Kyushu University International Programs in Law would like to sincerely thank Prof. Kamil Zeidler and Ms. Paula Chmielowska for visiting us and providing valuable insights on cultural heritage law to our students.

📚 Creative Workshop on Speculative Legal Designs
🎓 Freyja van den Boom, University of Antwerp
📅 March 5, 2026

How can the new digital technologies influence our life and perception of law in the next decades?

This was the question our master students, together with doctoral students and faculty members, explored in a group discussion yesterday. It is obvious that technology today tends to push the limits of humanity and the laws we have created, yet it is still unclear how exactly the law should coexist with the new inventions on the horizon.

The workshop and the discussions overall were very useful for our students, especially those writing on robotics, agentic artificial intelligence and other new technologies.

YLP Internship 'Clinical Study at Law Firms' finished with a Closing Ceremony on February 27th. Congratulations! 🎉

The legal internship was filled which multiple lecture panels and groups discussions on the topics closely related to the legal practice today. Students were very excited to present their own ideas and results in front of the other young leaders.

Aside from everyday commitment to the internship duties at law firms, our master students had an opportunity to visit key legal institutions in Fukuoka: Fukuoka District Court, Fukuoka Family Court, Fukuoka Summary Court (incl. Mediation Department) and the Public's Prosecutor's Office. Students also participated in a meaningful discussion with the judges at a special event on February 24th. Overall, the internship was a success for the students, lecturers and practitioners.

Kyushu University International Programs in Law extends its sincere gratitude to Fukuoka Bar Association and the relevant authorities for supporting our students during the internship and providing them with valuable practical experience in the legal field.
