July 10: Holding of the SOKA University Post Top Global University Initiatives Kickoff Symposium- Keynote Lecture by Executive Director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) -

On July 10 (Wed), Soka University will hold the "SOKA University Post Top Global University Initiatives Kickoff Symposium" to introduce our decade-long initiatives for MEXT’s “Top Global University Project” since 2014 and discuss the continuation and further development of the initiatives.

There will be reports by faculty and students on their global education and study abroad experiences, as well as a keynote lecture (live stream) on the theme "A Nuclear Weapons-Free Future for Our Children" by Executive Director Melissa Parke of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), an international NGO that won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.

Executive Director Melissa Parke
The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN)

Former Australian Minister for International Development. Served as UN international lawyer for 8 years. Recipient of the Accountability Round Table award for parliamentary integrity (2013), presented by a former chief justice of the High Court of Australia, and the Jerusalem (Al Quds) Peace Prize (2022). Appointed Executive Director of ICAN in September 2023, an international NGO promoting the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons that won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.

7月10日に創価大学「ポストスーパーグローバル大学創成支援キックオフ・シンポジウム」を開催― 国際NGO「核兵器廃絶国際キャンペーン(ICAN)」事務局長が基調講演―

創価大学では、7月10日(水)に「ポストスーパーグローバル大学創成支援キックオフ・シンポジウム」を開催します。2014年から10年間にわたり実施された文部科学省「スーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業」について、本学の取り組みを紹介し、事業の継続・発展へ向けた展望を学内外に発信します。

当日は、教員・学生によるグローバル教育や留学実績などの報告とともに、2017年にノーベル平和賞を受賞した国際NGO「核兵器廃絶国際キャンペーン(ICAN)」のメリッサ・パーク事務局長による基調講演（オンライン登壇／テーマ：「子どもたちに核兵器のない未来を」）を予定しています。

元オーストラリア政府国際開発大臣。国際法務の専門家として国連に8年間勤務。オーストラリア連邦最高裁判所の元裁判長から贈られる「アカウンタビリティ・ラウンドテーブル賞」(2013年)、エルサレム（アル・クッズ）平和賞(2022年)を受賞。2023年9月、ICAN事務局長に就任。ICANは核兵器禁止条約を推進し、2017年にノーベル平和賞を受賞した国際NGO。

今回の第5回Soka Global Perspectivesは、「東方政策」40周年記念事業として在日本マレーシア大使館の公認を受けて行われるものです。「東方政策」とは1982年にマハティール元首相の政権の下で採用されたマレーシアの政策です。本政策は日本人の労働倫理、学習・勤労意欲、道徳、経営能力などを、留学や研修を通じて日本から学び、マレーシアの発展を目指すことを目的としています。これまで26,000人を超えるマレーシア人が本政策のもとで日本に派遣されました。

Soka University is holding a series of lectures, "Soka Global Perspectives,” welcoming experts of various fields from around the world.

The Soka Global Perspectives #5 is officially recognized by the Embassy of Malaysia in Japan as part of the "40th Anniversary of the Look East Policy."
The "Look East Policy" is a Malaysian government policy adopted in 1982 under the administration of former Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad. This policy aims to develop Malaysia by learning from Japan, through study abroad and training, the work ethic, willingness to learn and work, morality, and management skills of the Japanese people. To date, over 26,000 Malaysians have been dispatched to Japan under this policy.
