Need English language support for procedures at the Aoba Ward Office? Apply for their English Interpretation Service!

It’s available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays and can be used free of charge!

Though making an appointment is not required, it’s recommended if you’d like to use the service.
If you’d like to make an appointment, please do so at least 2 days before your desired date.

Notice of Closure – Golden Week Holidays

The International Support Center (ISC) will be closed on April 29, 2026 (Wed) and May 4-6, 2026 (Mon-Wed) for the Golden Week Holidays. We will reopen and resume normal operations on April 30-31, 2026 (Thurs-Fri) and again on May 7, 2026 (Thurs).

Thank you for your understanding regarding any delays in our responses during this time.

SenTIA is hosting online Japanese classes for people who are studying Japanese for the first time!

When: May 8, 2026 - July 10, 2026
Every Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Number of Sessions: 10

Where: Lessons 1 & 10 - in-person at SenTIA Meeting Room 4 (4F)
*SenTIA Address: Sendai City, Aoba Ward, Ichibancho 3-3-20
Lessons 2-9 - online (via Zoom)

Cost: Free of charge (0 yen)

You can participate if you are...
-A resident of Sendai
-Studying Japanese for the first time
-16 years or older
-Able to attend all 10 sessions (if possible)

The ISC is pleased to share that the Sendai Regional Immigration Services Bureau has announced that residence cards can now be issued directly at Sendai Airport!

Starting on March 1, 2026, residence cards will be issued directly to "mid-to-long-term residents" upon receiving landing permission at Sendai Airport.

We hope that this information will help you when making travel plans for your arrival at Tohoku University!
