PRESS STATEMENT
On behalf of Council, I wish to welcome the Second Principal of Bomet University College (A Constituent College of Moi University) Prof. Charles Kipkirui Mutai. Prof. Mutai was serving as a Deputy Vice Chancellor - Planning, Research & Innovation at Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology. Prof. Mutai is taking over from the first substantive Principal of Bomet University College, Prof. Anne Kisaka Nangulu and Prof. Loice Chemngetich Maru who has been holding the position of acting capacity since 11th April, 2024.
His expertise is in teaching and research in areas of Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy and Complementary/Alternative Medicine. Prof. Mutai has served as Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor – Administration and Finance and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor – Planning, Research and Innovation at Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology (MMUST). He is the founder Dean of School of Public Health and Biomedical Sciences & Technology at MMUST.
Prof. Mutai has also served as Deputy Principal of Academic & Student Affairs and Acting Deputy Principal – Administration, Planning and Finance at Turkana University College. Previously, He worked as a Senior Research Scientist and Research Scientist at the Centre for Traditional Medicine & Drug Research, Kenya Medical Research Institute, where he researched on Ethnobotany, Phytochemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology of Kenyan medicinal plants. He was a PhD Fellow of the State Scholarship Foundation Fellowship and WHO Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Centre for Drug Screening (NCDS), Shanghai, China.
Prof. Mutai holds a PhD in Pharmacognosy (Excellent) from University of Athens, Greece; an MSc. in Pharmacology from University of Liverpool, UK and a BSc. in Biochemistry from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He brings a wealth of knowledge in Management, Research and Scholarship. He has supervised many postgraduate students at Master’s and PhD levels. He has spearheaded the development of the following programs in SPHBS&T: PhD Programs (9), Masters Programs (11), Post Graduate Diploma (2), Undergraduate Programs (6), Diploma Programs (8) and Certificate Programs (5). He has published eighty-four (84) Scientific Research Publications in international and referred journals and written chapter in books in his area of expertise. He has attracted twenty (20) research grants (three as Principal Investigator, Four as Co-Principal Investigator and three as co-investigator), Fellowship for the Advanced Training Program of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Postdoctoral Fellowship at NCDS and State Scholarship Foundation at Greece among others. His passion is service to humanity through developing affordable, environment friendly solutions to health problems.

We are confident that through his expertise and experiences as an accomplished executive leader and scholar, Prof. Mutai will contribute to the success of the University College while moving it to the next level in achieving our vision as premier Green University in fostering research excellence in Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainability; and quest to become a fully-fledged University.
