Tharaka University’s men’s rugby team delivered a strong performance at the 2026 Embu 7s, finishing as runners-up in the Division Two Bowl Cup after an impressive run in the knockout stages.

The team began its campaign in Embu by bagging an easy walkover win of 28–00 victory after Marsabit RFC failed to show up for their quarter-finals contest, before overcoming Karatina University RFC 19–00 in the semi-finals to book a place in the final.

In the championship match, Tharaka University narrowly fell 14–07 to Kenya Methodist University, settling for second place in the Division Two Bowl Cup.

Meanwhile, the Tharaka University women’s rugby team finished sixth in the Main Cup, putting up a commendable performance against strong opposition throughout the tournament that included the 2026 Women's Kenya Cup Silver Medalists Kenya Harlequins amongst others.

The results reflect the continued growth and competitiveness of rugby at Tharaka University, with both teams flying the University’s flag high at the Embu 7s 2026.

Tharaka University’s 1st Edition Taekwondo Championship came to a successful conclusion today following an action-packed second day that saw adult competitors take to the mat for the highly anticipated semifinals and finals.

The opening day featured the children’s competitions. The second day brought together skilled adult athletes from different teams across Kenya, who competed in various weight categories, displaying impressive skill, discipline, resilience and sportsmanship.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, who was present at the event, commended the athletes for their focus, determination and discipline—qualities he noted are essential not only in sports but also in developing responsible citizens.
