"I was rejected by the father of my child, sold clothes, worked as a matatu conductor and finally made it to Qatar!" 23-year-old Faith Wanjiru Mwangi, a single mother of one is proud to have worked as a receptionist at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
Wanjiru says only her resilience helped her to stand when she was almost falling down and quitting.
"Babake mtoto wangu aliniacha kwa sababu ya kukataa kuacha masomo yangu university. Nilikuwa nasomea Bachelor of Education (Arts - Mathematics and Geography) pale Embu University. Wakati niliona pesa ninatumiwa hainitoshi, nikaamua kuuza nguo kwa hostel. Nilikuwa naacha mtoto kwa mtu nikienda class lakini nikitoka class, ninazunguka naye nikiuza nguo.
"Huyo mama aliyekuwa akiniuzia nguo alichomekewa, sasa ilibidi niwe naenda na mtoto na class ama nilikuwa naachia wanafunzi wenzangu. Kuuza nguo ndio imenilipia fees yangu na kulea mtoto mpaka nikagraduate 2021. Nilikuwa nachukua nguo Gikomba napeleka Embu."
"Nikija kugraduate, my ex alirudi akitaka tuwe pamoja nikaona anataka kunitupisha mbao. Nilimkataa. Contract yangu hapa Qatar inaisha January 14, 2022 na wameshanipatia offer ya kazi nyingine. In life, you need to have goals and no matter how hard the situation is, you need to keep on moving. God timing is always the best," Wanjiru told TUKO.co.ke.
