Honouring a legacy, inspiring a generation…

The Sri Lanka Association for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (SLAFAR) successfully held the Professor Sena S. De Silva Memorial Oration - 2026 on 6th May at the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya.

The Oration was delivered by Professor P. B. Terney Pradeep Kumara, Professor in Oceanography at the University of Ruhuna and Director General of the Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Department.

The Citation to Professor Sena S. De Silva was delivered by Professor Sanath Hettiarachchi, Chairman of the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA).

We were also proud to witness the presentations by the recipients of the Professor Sena S. De Silva Memorial Research Scholarship, a truly inspiring showcase of the next generation of aquatic researchers.

The event brought together family members, colleagues, academics, students, and SLAFAR members, all united in gratitude for a legacy that continues to guide and inspire.

Thank you to everyone who helped and joined us in keeping this academic legacy alive.
