Malcolm Spittel, first ever cricketer from St. Joseph's College to captain Ceylon.

Godfrey Malcolm Spittel, (b. 11 October 1916, d. 25 October 1992) played for St Joseph's College from 1934 to 1936, captaining the College cricket team in 1936. He also captained his club, the Nondescripts from 1944 to 1951. He made his international debut for Ceylon against New Zealand in 1937.

The Indian team led by Vijay Merchant toured Ceylon for the first time in 1945. Spittel scored 124 runs for the Ceylon Cricket Association in March 1945. The three-day unofficial Test against India was played at the newly constructed Colombo Oval on 31 March, 1 and 2 April 1945. Spittel dismissed Vinoo Mankad, C. S. Nayudu and Lala Amarnath and finished with figures of three for 48. He played against the West Indies team captained by John Goddard in February 1949, the first West Indies team to tour Ceylon and the Pakistan team captained by Mohammad Saeed in April 1949, the first Pakistan team to tour Ceylon.

Malcolm Spittel played his last international match for Ceylon when the touring M.C.C. side captained by Freddie Brown on its way to Australia for the Ashes series, played a day game at the Colombo Oval on 1 October 1950. The Ceylon team was Mahesh Rodrigo, Carl Obeysekera, Sathi Coomaraswamy, Stanley Jayasinghe, Vernon Prins, G. M. Spittel (captain), M. Kasipillai, F. G. Dalpathado, Bertie Wijesinha, H. L. Spittel, and Ben Navaratne.
