Recently, Prof. Li Du, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law at UM and a member of the Smart Tourism team at APAEM, has published a significant commentary in Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology, one of the world’s most influential scientific journals (5-year impact factor: 147). In the article, Prof. Du argues that current regulatory frameworks are ill-equipped to handle the rapid advancements in synthetic cell (SynCell) research—an AI-driven, interdisciplinary global endeavour—and proposes an anticipatory governance model to guide its responsible development.

A student delegation from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS), accompanied by the Center for Hong Kong and Macao Studies at Tsinghua University, recently visited the University of Macau (UM) for a two-day academic exchange. The event was hosted by Professor Davis Ka Chio Fong, Director of Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming (ISCG) and advisor to the Macao Economy team of APAEM at UM. The Academic Conference on the Articulation of Judicial Rules between Hengqin and Macao was recently held in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin (Hengqin Cooperation Zone). The event was jointly hosted by the Zhuhai Intermediate People's Court, the People's Court of the Hengqin Cooperation Zone, and the Macau SAR Basic Judicial Court, and organized by the Special Committee on Privat Interregional Law of the China Society of Private International Law (CSPIL).

Prof. Guangjian Tu shared concluding remarks at the event, expressing hope for Hengqin to lead and set precedents.

Recently, the paper "How e-MOP can help Macau merchants with the payment ecosystem of tourists" has received the 2026 Best Paper Award at the 13th Advances in Hospitality & Tourism Marketing and Management (AHTMM 2026) conference. The study was jointly conducted by Prof. Rob Law, Deputy Director of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM) at the University of Macau (UM); Prof. Jerome Yen, Distinguished Professor of UM's Faculty of Science and Technology (FST); Mr. KaKit Wong and Mr. Hanzhang Liu, master's students at FST; and Ms. Yihong Chen, a Ph.D. candidate at UM's Faculty of Business Administration.

The Department of Economics of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Macau recently hosted a workshop titled "Market Design in Practice: Exchange, Matching, and Allocation Systems," which was co-hosted by the Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM).

The event brought together researchers from Chinese mainland, the United States, Singapore, and Macao to examine how economic theory can be harnessed to build fairer and more effective institutions—addressing pressing issues such as organ allocation, school admissions, and public resource distribution.
