PEKAN, May 16 – The Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) Postgraduate Association (PGA) 2025/2026 recently hosted the annual university-level 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition for 2026. The high-stakes event brought together 17 postgraduate students who had previously triumphed at their respective faculty-level rounds. Each finalist faced the ultimate academic challenge of translating complex doctoral research into a compelling, three-minute presentation tailored for a general audience.
The competition was divided into two distinct categories to accommodate the diverse fields of research at the university, covering the Social Sciences as well as Science, Technology and Engineering. To determine the winners, a distinguished panel of six academic experts was assembled from various faculties and centers within UMPSA to evaluate the presentations based on delivery and impact.
The evaluation panel featured leading academics from multiple disciplines, including Profesor Madya Dr. Ku Muhammad Na'im Bin Ku Khalif from the Centre of Mathematical Sciences, and Profesor Madya Dr. Hafizoah Binti Kassim from the Centre of Modern Languages. Joining them were Ts. Dr. Salwani Binti Mohd Salleh and Dr. Mohd Shamil Bin Shaari, both representing the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology. The panel was completed by Dr. Ashwin Charles Benedict from the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology, alongside Ms. Wan Noor Farah Binti Wan Shamsuddin from the Centre of Modern Languages.
The event concluded with an official closing ceremony officiated by Prof. Ts. Dr. Che Ku Mohammad Faizal bin Che Ku Yahya. The top two winners from each category will now advance to the next stage of the 3MT competition, which will require virtual video submissions. The UMPSA PGA 2025/2026 extended its deepest appreciation to all participants, judges and organizing committee members for executing a successful program, while wishing the advancing finalists the absolute best in the upcoming national rounds.
