Last week, we marked the ending of the 40th administration of the FUTA Students' Union with a grand handing over ceremony. The event was a celebration of the administration's achievements and a passing of the torch to the succeeding set of leaders. The ceremony was filled with nostalgia, gratitude, and expectations for the future.
During the ceremony, the immediate past president took the opportunity to express his heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed immensely to the success of the PSALMMY-led administration. He also extended his gratitude to the students, staff, and management of FUTA for their unwavering support and trust.
PSALMMY took the moment to present awards of honour to Prof. Adu Olufemi (Adufem) who is a past Director of Socials of our Union (1992/1993)- Prof. Adufem has always been available for us, he gave us his shoulders to stand on at every time plus his immeasurable words of advice and support.
We also awarded the Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Prof. David Olanrewaju Oke (Baba Ewe) whose impact on the Union and its leaders is indelible. Beyond being the Dean of Students, he is a father figure who gave us a home far away from home.
In his farewell speech, the president highlighted the administration's achievements across various categories, including true advocacy, new policies, programs and projects. He praised the executives for their commitment, dedication, and maturity throughout our tenure. Their tireless efforts and selflessness were evident in the numerous projects and initiatives we implemented, which have had a lasting impact on the student community. The president encouraged them to leverage the skills and experience gained during their time in office to excel in their future endeavors.
As we handed over the reins to the new set of leaders, led by President Comr. Pelemo Desmond, the president offered words of wisdom and advice. The president urged them to make the most of their time in office, take charge of the union, and protect it from external influences. He also encouraged them to raise the standards of the union even higher, building on the legacy left behind. He reminded them that leadership is not just about holding positions, but about making a positive impact on the lives of others.
The handing over ceremony was more than just a transfer of positions; it was a passing of power, influence, policies, and great legacies. The 40th administration's tenure was an era of fulfillment, marked by significant achievements and milestones. We successfully implemented projects that improved student life, advocated for student rights, and promoted a sense of community within the university. As we bid farewell to our time in office, we are confident that the union is in capable hands, and we look forward to seeing the great things that the future holds.
