BIU Excellence: History Made! BIU Clinches NUGA Championship, First Private University Ever To Win Title

BENIN CITY, Nigeria – In a stunning victory that has rewritten the history books of Nigerian university sports, Benson Idahosa University (BIU), having been crowned the overall champion of the 2025 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games, has engraved the name of the university as the best university in sports development in Nigeria. The university's management has rolled out the red carpet to honor its heroic contingent, who returned not just with medals but with an unprecedented legacy.

In a grand reception held at the university’s Senate Chambers, Heritage Campus, Ugbor, Benin City, on Monday, December 8, 2025, staff and students erupted in celebration as the athletes paraded their hard-won haul: a staggering 34 medals, comprising 25 Gold, 6 Silver, and 3 Bronze. This dominant performance propelled BIU to the top of the medals table, securing the coveted overall championship title.
