PLASU, Police Command Partner to Strengthen Campus Security

Plateau State University, Bokkos (PLASU) held a strategic meeting with the Plateau State Police Command on May 14 to advance safety measures for staff and students on campus and in surrounding communities.

The engagement is part of PLASU’s ongoing push to consolidate recent security gains. Key upgrades already in place include a fortified perimeter fence with enhanced lighting, a rented building now serving as a police outpost near the university’s main approach, a joint military checkpoint, and expanded on-campus hostel facilities.

During the courtesy visit by CP Basset Ewah and his team, Vice Chancellor Prof. Shedrack Best commended the Command’s support but called for additional manpower and armed patrols. Represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Assoc. Prof. Keziah Ayuba, Prof. Best said:

“Your visit means a lot to us, given our terrain and the security challenges facing both the local government and the university. We appreciate the Police Force’s support. The outpost across the road has already boosted confidence among staff and students. We appeal for more armed officers within campus and the host community. The distance from the police division to the university often delays response during incidents. Having personnel here will save lives. We also look forward to security lectures and safety tips for our students.”

CP Ewah reaffirmed the Command’s commitment, noting that the visit was to interface with key institutions and understand the communities they serve.

“I am committed to immediately increasing manpower with a permanent nipping point along identified flashpoints. We are willing to do our part. Do your bid and I’ll do mine,” he said.

University Registrar Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, in a vote of thanks, stressed the need for a full-fledged police station beyond the rented outpost. “We appreciate the Command’s partnership, but a complete station will further secure our campus,” he added.

PLASU Unveils First-Ever Strategic Plan to Guide University Growth Through 2030

BOKKOS, Plateau State — Plateau State University, Bokkos has adopted its maiden Strategic Plan, setting a clear roadmap for institutional development from 2026 to 2030.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Shedrack Best received the plan on Wednesday, May 13, from the Strategic Planning Committee led by Prof. Theresa Nmadu of the University of Jos. The committee began research, consultations, and drafting on December 16, 2025, culminating in a four-year framework for the university.

Receiving the report alongside other management staff, Prof. Best said the document will anchor his administration’s efforts to build a lasting legacy.

“Operating without a strategic plan is like working without a compass,” Prof. Best stated. “Vice Chancellors come with their own visions, but those visions do not replace the university’s mission, values, or priorities. This plan lays out who we are, how we got here, where we are now, where we want to be, and how we’ll get there. These are simple but powerful questions.”

He commended the committee for its dedication and noted the plan’s user-friendly format. “You’ve given us a complete package. I’m grateful for the time and expertise you devoted to this process,” he said.

Prof. Nmadu explained that the plan reflects Prof. Best’s vision for a technologically driven campus and outlines projected academic and infrastructural expansion over the next four years. She added that the document is designed to be flexible and can be updated to meet emerging needs.
