24 years old Folarin Balogun became a US citizen by luck after his Nigerian mother who lives in England, was seven months pregnant, visited New York on holiday in 2001. When she attempted to return home to London, the airline refused to let her fly due to the size of her belly.

It therefore resulted in Folarin being born in Brooyklyn instead and becoming a US citizen by accident, they could only fly home to London after a few months when he and his mother were both deemed well enough to fly.

Folarin has the privilege to play for Nigeria, England or the US and he chose the latter.

He scored twice during last night match where USA beat Paraguay 4-1.

The *Vice Chancellor, on behalf of Senate, Management, Staff and Students of Caleb University, is pleased to announce its partnership with the Office of the First Lady of Lagos State, Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu*, and other critical stakeholders for the commemoration of the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Campaign.

CALEB UNIVERSITY DONS FORESEE TOUGH ECONIC TIMES AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS, URGE STRATEGIC ECONOMIC REFORMS

Economists and policy experts at Caleb University have projected tougher economic conditions for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that rising political activities, global geopolitical tensions and persistent inflation could further strain businesses and households if urgent reforms are not sustained.

The warning emerged at a high-level symposium organised by the University’s Centre for Political Issues and Economic Thoughts with the theme: “Nigeria’s Economic Outlook in a Pre-Election Year: Navigating Domestic Trends and Global Geopolitical Shocks.”

The symposium dissected Nigeria’s economic realities in the crucial pre-election year, highlighting the fragile nature of current economic gains despite moderate improvements in inflation figures and GDP projections.
Director of the Centre, Dr. Samuel Idowu, said Nigeria’s pre-election years have historically been characterised by aggressive political spending, heightened policy uncertainty and economic volatility capable of reversing hard-earned gains.

“In Nigeria’s political system, the pre-election year witnesses intense activities ranging from party primaries and campaigns to strategic political alignments and litigations. These activities naturally impact public spending patterns and economic stability,” he stated.

One of the lead speakers, Dr. Raymond Aleghona, noted that although inflation moderated to about 15 per cent in March 2026, with April figures ending at 15.38 per cent, the cost of living remains unbearably high for millions of Nigerians.
He described the projected GDP growth rates of 3.9 per cent in 2025 and 4.1 per cent in 2026 as modest and vulnerable to both domestic and international shocks.

In a bold demonstration of its commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship and future-focused education, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, through its Tech Hub in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science, hosted a groundbreaking one-day workshop and digital exhibition themed: “Transforming Digital Products to Revenue.”
The high-impact event, which attracted students, software developers, tech enthusiasts, innovators and members of the academic community, was held at the university’s Multipurpose Hall and focused on equipping young innovators with practical strategies for transforming technological ideas into commercially viable enterprises.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, charged students to move beyond ordinary digital literacy and embrace value-driven innovation capable of solving societal challenges while generating wealth. He emphasized that the global economy is increasingly being driven by technology and creative entrepreneurship, urging participants to maximize the opportunities provided by the university’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the institution remains committed to producing solution-oriented graduates equipped with the technical competence, entrepreneurial mindset and global exposure required to thrive in the modern technology-driven world.

*Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia*, has called for a renewed national commitment to human capital development, urging Nigerians, particularly young people, to embrace character building, competence development and creativity as the foundations for personal success and national transformation.

Prof. Asikhia made the call during *the public presentation of two books authored by distinguished academic, entrepreneur and transformational thinker, Dr. Ayokunnu Olowoporoku* — *See It, Say It, Do It: A Three-Step Guide to Achieving Success and Lifewire: Philosophies for Daily Living* — at the prestigious MUSON Centre, Lagos.

Addressing a gathering of academics, business leaders, professionals, students and policymakers, the Caleb University Vice Chancellor stressed that the future of Nigeria would be determined not by the abundance of its natural resources but by the quality of its human resources.
According to him, the books offer practical insights for a generation seeking direction, purpose and sustainable success in an increasingly competitive world.

If Nigeria is to attain its full potential, we must invest deliberately in developing minds, nurturing talent and building leaders who can transform ideas into impact,” Prof. Asikhia said.
