ACCOUNTANCY DEPARTMENT CLINCHES 2025 EKSPOLY RECTOR’S CUP IN THRILLING FINAL

It was a day of footballing spectacle at the Polytechnic Mini Pitch on Wednesday, 10th September, 2025 as the Accountancy Department stunned defending champions, Elect Elect, in a pulsating 5–4 victory to lift the 2025 Rector’s Cup.

The encounter, witnessed by the Rector, Registrar, and a mammoth crowd of students, lived up to its billing as a true classic. Accountancy made their intentions known early, with David Akinyele John breaking the deadlock in the 5th minute. Just three minutes later, Bello Ahmed Olasunkanmi doubled the advantage, before David struck again in the 25th minute to complete his brace, handing Accountancy a commanding 3–0 lead.

Elect Elect, however, refused to bow without a fight. Inspired by the brilliance of their talisman, Ogunsan Temitope Abiodun, they clawed back into the game with two quick goals, reducing the deficit to 3–2. But Bello restored Accountancy’s two-goal cushion with his second strike before halftime, leaving the scoreline at 4–2.

The second half brought even more drama as Ilesanmi Samuel Temidayo’s sublime effort narrowed the gap to 4–3. Elect Elect piled on the pressure, but their efforts were undone when Omopariola Mayowa struck for Accountancy to make it 5–3.

In the dying moments, Elect Elect were awarded a penalty, coolly converted by Ogunsan to complete his hat-trick and set up a tense finish. But it proved too little, too late, as the final whistle confirmed Accountancy’s famous 5–4 triumph.

The atmosphere was electric throughout, with chants and celebrations reverberating across the campus. The Rector, visibly impressed by the display of sportsmanship and resilience, commended both teams for putting on an unforgettable show.

Though defeated, Ogunsan Temitope Abiodun of Elect Elect was named Man of the Match for his outstanding hat-trick performance.

For the next year, one name will echo across Ekiti State Polytechnic, Iṣan Ekiti—Accountancy, the new kings of the Rector’s Cup.

*Non-Academic Staff Retain EKSPOLY Staff Games Trophy After Dramatic Penalty Shootout*

It was fireworks and passion at Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan Ekiti, on Tuesday, 9th September, 2025, as the Academic and Non-Academic Staff renewed their rivalry in the grand finale of the 2025 Staff Games. The fierce contest ended 1-1 in regulation time but was settled 5-4 on penalties in favour of the Non-Academic Staff, who successfully defended their title.

The defending champions drew first blood early in the game when Owolabi Adebesin Abayomi fired home a clinical strike that left the Academic Staff goalkeeper stranded. Their joy, however, was short-lived as Computer Science lecturer, Mr. Obasade Emmanuel Temitope, responded in style with a stunning free-kick to level the scoreline before halftime.

The second half was fiercely contested, with both sides battling hard but unable to find the winner. Extra time only heightened the suspense, forcing the teams into a penalty decider. With the Polytechnic community watching in anticipation, the Non-Academic Staff held their nerve to edge their rivals 5-4 from the spot, successfully defending their crown.

The Polytechnic Mini Pitch was filled to capacity, with staff and students cheering passionately for their teams. Dignitaries including the Rector, Dr. Sunday Osinkolu Ajeigbe, the Deputy Rector, the Bursar, Deputy Registrar, and Deans of Faculties graced the occasion, adding glamour to the event.

With the victory, the Non-Academic Staff once again etched their names in EKSPOLY sporting history, proving their resilience and determination on the field of play.
