There is a question I keep coming back to as I prepare for Thursday.

We have spent decades building universities around one core idea: that knowledge is earned through effort, reflection, time, and intellectual struggle. That the process of thinking deeply is just as important as the output it produces.

AI does not work that way. It compresses that process. It removes the struggle. And it delivers something that looks very much like the output, without any of the journey that used to produce it.

So what do we do with that?
Not as a policy question. Not as a technology debate. But as people who have dedicated our careers to knowledge, learning, and the development of human minds.

That is what I will be exploring on Thursday, May 21 at the 8th FASS Lecture Series, LAUTECH Ogbomoso. The lecture is titled Artificial Intelligence, Intellectual Authenticity, and Deep Scholarship: Rethinking Library and Information Science in The Digital Age.

I do not have all the answers. But I think asking the right questions out loud, in a room full of people who care about scholarship, is exactly where this conversation needs to happen.

12 noon. The Hall, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.

Come ready to think.

LAUTECH celebrates excellence in varsity administration as Registrar, Olayinka Balogun hits diamond

All roads lead to the Trenchard Hall at the Nigerian Premier University, the University of Ibadan, as the first female Registrar in the over 36 years history of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Olayinka Olanike Balogun, turns 60.

Her's is not talking about luck or being favoured. She is a clear mix of brain, beauty , hardwork and personal commitment to making it in her chosen career and impacting humanity without any aura of pride.

Since assuming duty at LAUTECH, as the number one Registry staff and overseer of the records and policies of the citadel of learning, Olayinka has built effectively on what her predecessors left as the strong foundation the best State University and best University of Technology in Nigeria rests on.

Our Registrar is brilliant, hardworking, impactful and generous to a fault. Her husband found gold and her children her blessed in a special way to have rode through to this planet.

It is for this reason and many more that we wish our 'small-but-mighty' Amazon a blessed 60th birthday and join her husband and beautiful children to reecho the dictates of Proverbs 31: 28-29 "Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her and says there are many virtuous and capable women, but you surpass them all."
