CUSTECH VC’s Cup Kicks Off with Exciting Opening Match

The 4th edition of the VC’s Cup football competition officially kicked off on Monday, May 11th, 2026, at the Sports Complex of Confluence University of Science and Technology amidst excitement from students, staff and football lovers.

In his opening address, the Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, who was represented by the University Librarian, Mrs. Helen Osebequen Chris-Israel, expressed delight over the annual football competition and described sports as a vital tool for unity, friendship and healthy competition among students.

She urged players from the various departments and faculties to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, stressing that every participant should see themselves as winners irrespective of the outcome of matches.

The opening game between the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Computing ended in a goalless draw, with both teams displaying impressive performances before enthusiastic spectators.

The Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, later arrived at the Sports Complex towards the end of the second half of the match and presented the Man of the Match award to Mr. Emmanuel Augustine of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences for his outstanding performance.

The colourful opening ceremony attracted a large turnout of football enthusiasts and top management staff of the university including, the Provost, College of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof. Solomon Avidime; Director of Physical Planning and Development, Builder Ismail Adoke; Director of the University Clinic, Dr. Ibrahim Oniwon; Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof. Abdulkabir Raji, Dean Facultyof Computing; Dr. Suleiman Danuwa,Dean, Faculty of Agricultur, the Dean of Student Affairs, Engr. Dr. Shehu Shaib.

CUSTECH Osara Expels Two Students Over Lesbianism, Two Others Expelled, One Rusticated for Misconduct

The Management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State,has expelled two 200-level female students over involvement in lesbianism, expelled two other students for offences bordering on physical assault, stabbing, and cloning of students’ pictures, while another student was rusticated for one academic session over involvement in fighting and physical assault.

The decision was taken by the Senate of the University at its 30th Regular Meeting held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

The Deputy Registrar, Academic Affairs, Mr. Eli Usman Gbadafu, in separate letters addressed to the affected students, stated that the Senate’s decision takes immediate effect.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Engr.Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu ,FNSE, commended the Students’ Disciplinary Committee for what he described as a thorough and diligent job.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the University remains committed to training students in both character and learning, stressing that the Management will not compromise on discipline and adherence to the institution’s rules and regulations.

CUSTECH Osara Expels 8 Students Over Examination Misconduct

The Management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, has approved the expulsion of eight students for their involvement in examination malpractice.

The decision was taken by the University Senate at its 30th Regular Meeting held on Wednesday, 29th April, 2026, in line with the institution’s academic policies as contained in the Student Handbook (Page 33, Item 19).

According to a letter signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Mr. Eli Gbadufu, the affected students were found guilty of examination misconduct during the First Semester examinations for the 2025/2026 academic session. He noted that the students were duly investigated by the Examination Misconduct Committee before the Senate ratified the decision.

NYCN Kogi State Executives Pay Courtesy Visit to CUSTECH Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu FNSE, today, 30th April, 2026, received the Executives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State Chapter, in a courtesy visit at his office at the university campus in Osara.

The delegation was led by the Kogi State Chapter Chairman, Comrade Abdulrahman Abdulmumuni Enesi.

The NYCN Kogi State Chapter Chairman, Enesi, seized the occasion to commend the Vice Chancellor for his outstanding contributions to the rapid growth and development of the university. He noted with admiration that within just five years of its establishment, CUSTECH has recorded remarkable strides under the purposeful leadership of Engr. Prof. Salawu, a testament to his dedication and visionary administration.

The youth friendly Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, in his response, charged the NYCN executives to use their platform to inspire young Nigerians to invest in themselves through education, skill acquisition, and personal development.

He further emphasized that the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, and must therefore be intentional about preparing themselves for the responsibilities that lie ahead.

Prof. Salawu further stressed the importance of integrity as a cornerstone of true leadership, urging the youth to uphold the highest moral standards as they aspire to positions of authority.

He assured them of his full support to the State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.

CUSTECH Vice Chancellor Welcomes NISS Executive Intelligence Management Course Participants, Calls for Bold Ideas to End Insecurity

The Vice Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE, today, 30th April 2026, welcomed participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC 19), 2026, from the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Abuja, who were on a study tour to Kogi State.

While receiving the team, Prof. Salawu called on the participants of EIMC 19 to think more deeply and creatively about lasting solutions to the growing challenge of insecurity in Nigeria, stressing that the country needs bold, thought-provoking ideas to tackle the menace head-on.

The participants and their leader, R. A. Bolarinwa, FSI+, were taken on a guided tour of the university's facilities across the campus, where they had the opportunity to observe the institution's academic and infrastructural developments at first hand.

In her remarks, Lucy Onoka, FSI, who is the Syndicate Leader, commended the university management for achieving so much in a remarkably short period of time. She also expressed her appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for his warm reception and the hospitality extended to the visiting team.

CUSTECH Osara Hostel Students Sensitized on Hygiene and Responsible Living

CUSTECH Osara hostel students have been sensitized on personal and environmental hygiene, as well as the responsible use of hostel facilities, during a seminar organized by the Dean of Student Affairs of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.
The seminar, which took place today Saturday 25th April,2026, at the Large Lecture Theatre (LLT), Takeoff Site, featured three guest speakers who addressed key issues affecting students’ health, behaviour, and hostel maintenance.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Yahaya Oniwon, Chief Medical Director of the CUSTECH Health Centre, highlighted the health implications of poor sanitation and personal hygiene in the hostel. He advised students to maintain cleanliness at all times to prevent diseases and promote healthy living.

In her presentation as the second speaker, Dr. Esther Idoko, Acting Chief Counsellor of the University, spoke on attitudinal change and behavioural responsibilities. She stressed the need for discipline, accountability, and positive habits to ensure a clean and safe hostel environment.

The third speaker, Mrs. Salome Ocholi, Hostel Hall Administrator, spoke on preserving hostel facilities. She urged students to take responsibility for the facilities provided, emphasizing discipline and accountability in their usage.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Engr. Dr. Shehu Shaib,in his remarks, noted that the welfare of students remains a top priority for the University Management. He encouraged students to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to function effectively in their academic pursuits. He also appreciated the guest speakers and commended the students for their participation.

There was a lively question- and -answer session where students asked questions and made significant observations.

NUC GRANTS FULL ACCREDITATION TO SIX ENGINEERING PROGRAMMES AT CUSTECH OSARA

Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara, Kogi State, has recorded a landmark achievement as the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to six Engineering programmes offered by the University's Faculty of Engineering.

The Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE, announced this development today, 21st April,2026, at his office in Osara, while presenting the official accreditation letter from the NUC dated 7th April, 2026, signed by the Director of Academic Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NUC.

The six programmes that have received full accreditation are: Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

Speaking on the achievement, Prof. Salawu described the accreditation as a testament to the commitment of the University's management, staff, and students to academic excellence and national standards. He congratulated the entire University community, with special commendation to the staff and students of the Faculty of Engineering, whose dedication made this feat possible.

Moreso, Prof.Asipita expressed his appreciation to the Executive Governor of the State, Alh.Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his continued support to the progress of the University.

CUSTECH VC ADVOCATES FOR WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP AT NIOB KOGI STATE INVESTITURE AND WORKSHOP

The Vice Chancellor of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, has called on society to give women more opportunities in leadership positions.

He made this declaration today, Friday 17th April,2026, at the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), Kogi State Chapter Investiture and Workshop, held at the Faculty of Law Auditorium, where he was represented by the University Registrar, Mrs. Gloria Ojochogu Yakubu.

Mrs Yakubu, while speaking at the Investiture, congratulated the newly inaugurated executive members of the NIOB, Kogi State Chapter, led by Builder Aisha Orumah Sylvanus, commending the Institute for entrusting leadership to a woman for a successive tenure. She noted with admiration that the immediate past Chairman, Bldr. Mrs. Modupe Obafemi, handed over to another female leader, stressing that this was a testament to competence and trust. "If the Immediate Past Chairman had not performed excellently, the Institute would not have elected another woman to lead," she stated.

The workshop, themed "Constructing Tomorrow: Innovating Construction & Entrepreneurship — IoT and Metaverse," had Builder Prof. Emmanuel Achienu, FNIOB, Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Abraka, as the Keynote Speaker, who delivered an insightful address on the future of construction, technology, and entrepreneurship. The event provided a platform for professionals in the building Industry and CUSTECH students in the department of Building Technology, to explore innovations shaping the construction sector.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to distinguished personalities, including the Honourable Commissioner for Urban and Housing, Kogi State, Hon. Taiye Abanik, and the Director of Physical Planning and Development, Bldr. Ismail Adoke, who also serves as Patron of the NIOB Kogi State Chapter.
