Biotechnology Department, Federal University of Technology Owerri inaugurates Alumni Association.
The Biotechnology Department FUTO Alumni Association recently held her inauguration.
The event which also was the maiden visit of the Association to the Department held on Monday 10th June 2024 at the School of Biological Sciences Conference Room.
In his address, the Dean School of Biological Sciences, Prof. C. S Alisi noted that the Department is the first to have an Alumni Association Inaugurated in the School and charged the Association to work hard in reaching out to other Alumni members across the world in order to achieve more as a group.
The Head, Department of Biotechnology, Prof. J. N Okereke, in his address, highlighted that his aspiration even before he became the HOD was to see that there is an Alumni Association and thanked God for the actualization of that dream. He also mentioned that there are dividends and benefits associated with strong and coordinated Alumni.
Speaking further, he thanked Mr. Agu Reuben and Dr. (Mrs.) Augusta Nwachukwu for their great efforts towards the actualization of the Alumni Association. He also charged everyone to operate as one big family in order to accomplish set goals thereby leaving legacies and taking the lead in the School.
In concluding his speech, he invited the Dean to join him in presenting the certificate of inauguration to the representatives of the Association.
In his address, the President of the Association, Mr. Agu Reuben thanked God for his Grace that made it possible for Alumni members and staff members of the Department to meet again after many years. He also thanked the University management, School of Biological Sciences and the Department of Biotechnology for the great services rendered over the years.
He highlighted that the Association is aimed towards providing valuable resources and networking opportunities, helping Alumni members stay connected and giving back to the Department and University. He mentioned that Alumni members gathered not only to celebrate the inauguration but to reaffirm their commitment to make valuable impact. He also mentioned that the Association has been officially recognized by the National Executive Council of FUTO Alumni under the leadership of Prof. Laz Uzoechi on 13th April 2024.
Concluding his address, Mr Agu affirmed that the programmes of the Association would not only honour the cherished past but also pave way for a brighter future and thanked Alumni members for being part of the Association.
In their goodwill messages, Professor T.I.N. Ezejiofor and Dr. E. U. Ezeji expressed their joy at seeing the products of the Department being good ambassadors and coming back to identify with the Department again after many years.
In a closing remark, the Vice President of the Association, Dr. (Mrs.) Augusta Nwachukwu thanked the Dean of the School of Biological Sciences, the Head of Department and staff members of Biotechnology Department for their support towards the event. She also thanked Alumni members for their great commitment towards the event.
The event had in attendance the Dean of the School of Biological Sciences, the Head of Biotechnology Department, the most Senior Professor in the Department, other lecturers, Technologists, Administrative staff in the Department and Alumni members.
