Alumni Spotlight: Celebrating Academic Brilliance and Resilience.

It is always a proud moment to watch dedicated researchers blossom. Today, the spotlight is on Akinleye Olajuwon Victoria, an exceptional alumna from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti.

Victoria finished her last session with an impressive 4.45 CGPA. While she nearly made a First Class, her brilliance and rigour as a sound researcher spoke far louder than any degree classification.

Through her mentor, Prof. Kazeem Olasunkanmi AJEIGBE, she had the privilege of participating in the Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN) 42nd Annual Scientific Conference held at the University of Lagos. Victoria did not just participate; she completely owned the room. Her presentation was adjudged one of the absolute best at the conference.

Taking that momentum forward, that same presentation was developed into a full-length article, published in Elsevier's Current Research in Physiologyβ€”one of the world's leading journals in the field!

Currently, Victoria is serving at the Electroencephalography (EEG) Unit at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba. With her unparalleled passion and proven track record, she is well on her way to achieving her ultimate desire to become a trailblazing neuroscientist.

Keep soaring, Victoria! The future of neuroscience is incredibly bright.

And congratulations to the mentor Prof. Kazeem Olasunkanmi AJEIGBE

πŸ“š Finishing Strong is a Must!

As the 2025/2026 Second Semester Examinations commence at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, the Counselling and Human Development Centre (CHDC) has shared a vital reminder for all students:

Academic excellence is the need of the hour. Success at this crucial stage isn't down to luckβ€”it requires a deliberate strategy.

To cross the finish line triumphantly, remember these four pillars:

πŸ“Œ *Plan* | πŸ“Œ *Prepare* | πŸ“Œ *Focus* | πŸ“Œ *Succeed*

Here is a quick checklist to keep you grounded during this exam season:
βœ” Study with Resilience: True success comes from deep concentration, hard work, and pushing through the final stretch.
βœ” Protect Your Integrity: Say a definitive NO to examination malpractice in any form. It is a trap that hinders your long-term dreams.
βœ” Eliminate Distractions: Disconnect from the noise, put away the non-essential gadgets, and focus entirely on your goals.

To every student preparing to walk into the exam hall:
* You are your best.
* You can do it.
* You will make it.
* You are well able!

Go out there, stay disciplined, and finish strong! 🌿✨

πŸ“š Crack the Code to Exam Success!

As exam season approaches, the Directorate of Innovation & Digital Technology wants to remind you that success isn't just about how hard you workβ€”it's about how smart you prepare.

Whether you are aiming to top your class or just trying to navigate your schedule seamlessly, these 5 core pillars will help you Excel in Your Exams:

🌟 Key Tips for Academic Excellence:
**Start Early & Plan Ahead: Don't wait for the last minute. Give your brain the time it needs to absorb, process, and retain information.
**Believe in Yourself: Confidence is half the battle. Trust the work you've put in and keep a positive mindset.
**Get Organized: Set up a clean study space, gather all your notes, and know exactly what you need to cover.
**Manage your Time: Use suitable techniques to balance intense study blocks with quick, refreshing breaks.
**Study Smart: Use active recall, practice past questions, and focus on understanding concepts rather than just memorizing them.

"The secret of getting ahead is getting started." Let's make this semester your best one yet!

Wishing all FUOYE students the absolute best of luck in their upcoming examinations! You’ve got this. πŸ’ͺ✨

Today, I served as a guest speaker at the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), FUOYE Chapter 3-Day Certifying Skill Acquisition Class, where I spoke on the theme: "Empowering Individuals Through Skills, Entrepreneurship, and Personal Development."

During the session, I emphasized that in today's rapidly evolving digital economy, academic qualifications alone are no longer sufficient to guarantee success. I encouraged participants to intentionally acquire relevant, market-driven skills that complement their formal education, positioning themselves as creators of opportunities rather than seekers of opportunities.

We explored how entrepreneurship is fundamentally about identifying problems, developing innovative solutions, and creating value for society. I also stressed the importance of continuous learning, adaptability, resilience, effective communication, digital literacy, and networking as essential competencies for thriving in the 21st century. Furthermore, I challenged the students to cultivate a growth mindset, leverage technology as a tool for innovation, and remain committed to personal development, ethical leadership, and lifelong learning. These qualities, when combined with practical skills and entrepreneurial thinking, empower individuals not only to secure sustainable livelihoods but also to become employers of labour, catalysts for community development, and contributors to national economic growth.

My appreciation goes to the leadership of NAOSS, FUOYE Chapter, for the invitation and for organizing such a commendable initiative that is equipping students with practical knowledge beyond the classroom.

Special thanks to the host, Adewale Itunu Rosemary, fellow speakers and participants, for making the programme a success. Together, we are building a generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders equipped to create lasting impact.

🟒Fela Sowande🟒

At a time when many Africans were expected to imitate foreign cultures to gain recognition, Fela Sowande chose a different path. He carried Nigeria with him wherever he went.

Born in Abeokuta in 1905, Sowande grew up around music. What started in church choirs later took him to some of the most respected music institutions in the world. He became the first African to earn the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists (FRCO), a feat that placed him among the finest musicians of his generation. He also obtained a degree from the University of London and became a Fellow of Trinity College of Music.

Yet, his greatest achievement was not the certificates. It was his courage to make Nigerian stories, sounds, and rhythms visible on the global stage. Through celebrated works such as African Suite, Yoruba Lament, and Obangiji, he blended Yoruba musical heritage with classical music and became known as the father of modern Nigerian art music.

One lesson from Sowande's life is that excellence and identity can walk together. You do not have to abandon where you come from to succeed. Your roots can become your greatest advantage.

Another lesson is that preparation creates opportunities. Long before limelight, he spent years learning, practising, and refining his craft.

As students and alumni, we should remember that impact is not measured by how far we travel, but by what we contribute when we get there. Fela Sowande mastered his field, honoured his heritage, and left a legacy that still speaks decades after his passing.

That is the kind of success worth pursuing.

✍🏻Grace Oladele Olasupo
