Why is Biochemistry, a discipline at the heart of life, health, and innovation, still not recognized as a licensed profession in Nigeria?

For decades, Biochemists have walked a difficult path.

A path of not being recognised for their relevance even though they're making groundbreaking contributions.

We students spend 4 - 5+ years in rigorous training.

We master the science of life, from its basics, to understanding the root of all health situations.

We explore the complete biochemical make-up of the living systems and the metabolic activities accompanying them.

We push through research, experiments amidst sleepless nights.

We've gained just the knowledge that is very crucial to revamp and revolutionise the health sector of the national economy.

Yet, every year, we are pushed into a system that does not officially recognize us or the value we possess.

While Doctors are licensed,
Pharmacists are licensed,
Engineers are licensed,
Accountants are licensed,
And even emerging fields are getting councils and recognition.

What happens to Biochemists?
We remain unseen, unheard, and unrecognized.

This lack of licensing has cost us more than we realize:

- It limits our professional identity and competitive edge, globally.

- It forces many brilliant Biochemists to abandon their calling; because why suffer to become unrecognised?

- It prevents Nigeria from fully tapping into our potential in healthcare, food security, biotechnology, and even national security.

Everywhere in the world, Biochemists are advancing medicine, developing vaccines, driving biotech startups, and shaping industries.

But here in Nigeria, our value is locked behind neglect.

This is not just unfair.
It is also a huge loss for the nation.

Because without Biochemistry, there is a huge gap in medical sciences.
Without Biochemistry, drugs and vaccines development stalls.
Without Biochemistry, biotechnology cannot really thrive.

It’s time for change.

And the time is NOW!

We are calling for th
