5. Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, has commissioned a new lecture hall at the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko campus, marking a significant milestone in the state's efforts to promote education and infrastructure development. This achievement is a result of effective collaboration between the state and federal governments, demonstrating the governor's commitment to his administration's MORE Agenda for meaningful development, particularly in riverine communities

During the commissioning event, Governor Oborevwori expressed pride in the collaboration and emphasized the importance of supporting riverine communities, stating that they are "very dear to the heart of this administration." He directed the Commissioner for the Directorate of Riverine Infrastructure to commence work on the access road leading to the campus, enhancing connectivity for students and staff. The governor also urged the local community to maintain peace and take ownership of the university's infrastructure, recognizing its potential to attract additional development opportunities.

This inauguration showcases the state's commitment to fostering educational growth and supporting riverine communities in Delta State. Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had also advocated for the development of the university, calling on the Federal Government to construct buildings and provide amenities to enhance academic activities.

Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, proudly celebrates the achievements of its cadets during the recently concluded World Maritime Day essay competition, hosted by the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). The event, themed "Navigating the Future: Safety First," saw impressive participation from maritime institutions nationwide.

Among the standout participants were four cadets from the university, who demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication:

*Felicia Ebikaboere James* secured the 1st Runner-up position.

*Christian Ogbuehi*, *Kalu Michael Tochukwu*, and *Ugwumadu Benjamin* received prestigious awards for their outstanding contributions.

Their success not only highlights their individual commitment but also reflects the high standard of training and excellence promoted by the university. In its initiative to advance maritime education and strengthen international collaboration, the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) and Nigeria Maritime University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 3, 2024. The signing ceremony, conducted virtually, signifies a major step forward in fostering global academic partnerships.

The MoU focuses on collaborative efforts in academic exchange, research development, and the sharing of best practices within the maritime and marine sciences fields. Dr. Lynette A. Bontia, President of SPAMAST, expressed her excitement about the partnership, emphasizing how it reflects SPAMAST's commitment to expanding its international presence and enhancing maritime education programs.
