GeMS GeMS (Geriatrics. Movement. Stroke) is an interdisciplinary research group in Department of Neuroscience, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway.

Stroke) is an interdisciplinary research group in Department of neuroscience, in Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway. The Geriatric aspect of the research group focuses physical, mental, functional and social conditions affecting elderly people. The movement aspect of the research group focuses on research areas related to causes and characteristics of movement

disorders, interventions to improve mobility following various diseases and medical conditions. The Stroke aspect of the research group focuses on researching the whole care pathway from pre-hospital services – via emergency medicine, early rehabilitation, and prevention and treatment of complications – to secondary prevention and maintenance of functioning over time. In the area of Stroke, the research group has an international reputation for pioneering the development of stroke unit care, and researching the interaction between specialist and primary healthcare services when it comes to the follow-up of stroke patients.

New publication from the Preventit.eu-study! The paper describes how the lifestyle-integrated functional exercise (LiFE)-programme - originally developed to improve fall risk in older adults - was adapted to suit young seniors for preventing functional decline.

The authors conclude that "the majority found the activities helpful, adaptable to individual lifestyle, appropriately difficult, and safe".
