Aiming to equip future English language educators with knowledge and skills on the integration of technology in education, the English Guild organization conducted a seminar-workshop at the College of Teacher Education (CTE) Conference Room on January 31, 2025.

The event was spearheaded by Mr. Ramil Gofredo, English Guild Adviser, and was attended by Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) English 2 and 3 students.

English Guild President, Ms. Fatima Mae M. Monton commenced the event by delivering her welcome address.

The core essence of conducting such an event was then presented by Mr. Cerge Ruloma, BSEd-English 3A Representative.

“This event is not just about us. It’s about our students in the future. By honing our skills, we become more equipped and become more prepared in the classroom environment, catering to the needs of our diverse learners,” Mr. Ruloma said in his statement of purpose.

The highlight of the seminar-workshop was the session led by the guest speaker, Ms. Nicole Uy Ilano, CPA.

In line with the theme, “Transforming English Education in the Digital Era: Empowering Learners Through Technology to Foster Communication, Creativity, and Global Competence,” Ms. Ilano tackled four main agenda items which included the Importance of Interactive Learning, Top Apps for English Practice, Online Resources for Language Learners, and Fun and Engaging Language Games.

Ms. Ilano brought the students into an engaging discussion as she shared a list of beneficial technological tools that they can use not only to foster an enhanced learning experience and interactive classroom environment in the future but also to effectively equip their students with English language skills. These tools include Duolingo, Babbel, Tandem, BBC Learning English, Kahoot, and Quizlet.

Mr. Gofredo concluded the seminar, expressing his gratitude to the English Guild officers, guest speaker, and students who extended their time for the event.

Before officially transitioning into their practice teaching, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) pinned 114 4th-year education students during the Pinning Ceremony themed “Empowering Minds: Shaping the Upcoming Educators Through Innovation and Inclusivity” held at Bohol Island State University (BISU) Calape Campus Student Activity Center (SAC) on January 28, 2025.

The event marked a significant milestone for 60 Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) major in English, 26 major in Mathematics, and 28 Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) students.

The ceremony began with a welcome address by Dr. Rosita L. Lacea, Chairperson of the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) program. Dr. Mae A. Evardo, Dean of the College of Teacher Education, then presented the statement of purpose.

A key highlight of the event was the inspirational message from guest speaker Dr. Peter Paul C. Cubay, School Head of Cabilao National High School. In his speech, Dr. Cubay underscored the dedication and responsibility required in the teaching profession.

“Today is a very concrete testament that reminds us that being a teacher is not easy, and being a teacher takes a lot of responsibility ahead of you,” he stated, inspiring the pre-service teachers as they embarked on their journey.

The pinning ceremony symbolizes the students’ readiness to take on the challenges of classroom instruction, reinforcing their commitment to shaping young minds.
