CTU CONSOLACION STRENGTHENS DISASTER PREPAREDNESS THROUGH 3RD QUARTER NATIONWIDE SIMULTANEOUS EARTHQUAKE DRILL

Cebu Technological University–Consolacion Campus actively participated in the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on September 10, 2026, reaffirming the University’s commitment to disaster preparedness, campus safety, and emergency response readiness. Conducted pursuant to NDRRMC Memorandum No. 15, s. 2026, the activity mobilized students, faculty members, and non-teaching personnel in a campus-wide simulation designed to strengthen awareness and preparedness for possible earthquake emergencies.

Prior to the actual drill, the Campus Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Office, together with selected members of the Student Quick Response Team (SQRT), conducted a room-to-room information drive at 10:00 a.m. Students, faculty, and personnel were oriented on proper earthquake safety measures, evacuation procedures, designated assembly areas, and the importance of remaining calm and following established emergency protocols. The orientation emphasized that disaster preparedness requires not only knowledge but also the ability to respond quickly and systematically when an actual emergency occurs.

At 2:00 p.m., the campus conducted the earthquake simulation, during which participants performed the prescribed “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure before proceeding to designated evacuation and assembly areas. Students and personnel followed the instructions of the Campus DRRM Team and designated responders, while evacuation, assembly, and headcount procedures were carried out to simulate an organized response following a strong earthquake. The participation of the campus community demonstrated the importance of coordination, discipline, and familiarity with emergency procedures in minimizing risks, injuries, and confusion during disasters.

The successful conduct of the NSED reflects the continuing efforts of CTU Consolacion Campus, under the leadership of Campus Director Dr. Sarah Jane A. Colina, to cultivate a culture of safety, preparedness, and resilience. With the cooperation of the Campus DRRM Office headed by Mr. Herminio Pepito Jr., SQRT members, faculty, staff, and students, the activity served as an important reminder that preparedness must be continuously practiced rather than merely discussed. Through regular drills and safety orientations, CTU Consolacion continues to equip its academic community with the awareness, discipline, and practical skills necessary to respond effectively and responsibly when emergencies arise.

WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY: “SALAMAT SA BUHAY MO!”

Every September 10, the world observes World Su***de Prevention Day, a meaningful campaign that reminds us of the value of every human life and the importance of compassion, understanding, and genuine connection. With the message “Salamat sa buhay mo!” (Thank you for being alive!), the campaign encourages everyone to recognize that behind every smile may be a struggle we cannot see. A simple conversation, a listening ear, a reassuring presence, or a sincere expression of concern can make a profound difference. Su***de prevention is not solely the responsibility of mental health professionals—it is a shared responsibility that begins with creating families, schools, workplaces, and communities where people feel safe to speak, seek help, and know that they are not alone.

As we commemorate this day, may we become more intentional in checking on our friends, students, colleagues, and loved ones—not only when they appear troubled, but as a regular expression of care. Let us replace judgment with empathy, silence with meaningful conversations, and indifference with connection. Asking for help should never be viewed as weakness; rather, it is an important step toward healing and hope. BOARD MEMBER LAGON BOLSTERS CEBUTECH CONSOLACION CAMPUS SECURITY WITH TURNOVER OF METAL DETECTOR SCANNERS

In a continuing effort to strengthen campus security and safeguard the welfare of its academic community, Cebu Technological University (CebuTech)–Consolacion Campus received Super Scanner Metal Detectors through the support of 6th District Board Member Dason Larenz A. Lagon. The turnover forms part of proactive measures to enhance security screening and prevent potentially dangerous items from being brought inside the campus. The initiative has become particularly timely in view of the recent shooting incident, which underscored the importance of heightened vigilance, preventive security measures, and institutional preparedness in ensuring a safe learning and working environment for students, faculty, personnel, and visitors.

The turnover was graced by Board Member Dason Larenz A. Lagon, together with Ms. Marilou Navarro, Executive Assistant, and Mr. James Gallarde from the Office of Congresswoman Daphne A. Lagon. Receiving the security equipment on behalf of CebuTech Consolacion were Dr. Sarah Jane A. Colina, Campus Director; Dr. Rogelio C. Sala Jr., Dean of Instruction; Dr. Danilo Y. Patalinghug, Dean of Student Affairs and Services (SAS); Ms. Marisol Durano-Asmad, Executive Secretary to the Campus Director; and Mr. Rener Malagapo, CPA, Campus Accountant, and DRRM Officer Mr. Hermenio Pepito Jr. The metal detector scanners are expected to complement the campus's existing security protocols, particularly at designated entry points where security personnel can conduct systematic screening when necessary.

The provision of the scanners reflects the shared commitment of the university and its government partners to preventive safety rather than merely responding to incidents after they occur. In the wake of concerns brought about by the shooting incident, CebuTech Consolacion recognizes that campus safety requires a combination of appropriate security equipment, alert and well-trained personnel, clear emergency procedures, and the cooperation of the entire academic community. The scanners will therefore serve not only as detection devices but also as an additional deterrent against the unauthorized entry of weapons and other prohibited metallic objects, helping reinforce a culture of security, responsibility, and vigilance within the campus.

Following the turnover, Mr. James Gallarde and the visiting delegation also conducted an onsite inspection of the ongoing construction of the eight-storey academic building, accompanied by campus officials. The visit provided an opportunity to observe the progress of this major infrastructure project and reaffirm continuing support for the development of CebuTech Consolacion. Taken together, the security equipment turnover and infrastructure inspection demonstrate a broader commitment to creating a campus that is not only expanding academically and physically, but is also safe, secure, resilient, and responsive to the needs of its growing student population. CEBUTECH CONSOLACION ADVANCES QUALITY EXCELLENCE THROUGH INTERNAL QUALITY AUDIT 2026

Cebu Technological University–Consolacion Campus conducts its Internal Quality Audit (IQA) 2026 on September 7–8, 2026, reaffirming the campus’s commitment to quality assurance, institutional accountability, and continuous improvement. The two-day audit examines the implementation and effectiveness of the campus’s systems, processes, services, and documented procedures. The activity officially commenced with an opening program at the Campus Library, highlighted by the welcome address of Dr. Sarah Jane A. Colina, Campus Director, and the introduction of the auditees by Asst. Prof. Arvin B. Salera, Quality Assurance Officer.

The audit team is headed by Dr. Decem C. Suladay, Team Leader, who presented the audit introduction, objectives, scope, methodology, schedule, roles and responsibilities, confidentiality and code of conduct, classification of findings, and communication protocols during the audit. Joining the team are Dr. Rodel S. Hintapan, Dr. Ryan M. Mahilum, Dr. Christeodoflor A. Ramos, Prof. Mark Joseph C. Bernardo, Ms. Sofia M. Montana, and Ms. Melany M. Manlangit. The auditors were assigned to examine specific functional areas to provide an objective assessment of compliance, effectiveness, and opportunities for further enhancement.

The IQA covers the campus’s major academic and administrative areas, including Management and Leadership, Educational Delivery Processes, Maintenance and General Services, Research and Development, Production, Extension and Resource Generation, Library Services, Procurement/BAC/Supply and Property Custodianship, Finance and Budget, Student Affairs and Services, Registrar, Management Information Systems, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Human Resource Management, Document Control, and Gender and Development. Officials, deans, program chairs, office heads, faculty members, and personnel serve as auditees and process owners, presenting the necessary records and evidence and explaining how their respective offices implement university policies, procedures, and quality standards.

More than a compliance activity, the Internal Quality Audit provides CebuTech Consolacion with an important mechanism for identifying strengths, addressing gaps, improving institutional processes, and ensuring that services remain responsive to the needs of students and other stakeholders. Through the collective participation of the administration, faculty, and non-teaching personnel, the 2026 IQA embodies a shared culture of quality, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. The activity further strengthens CebuTech Consolacion’s resolve to uphold institutional standards and deliver efficient, relevant, and quality-driven academic and support services in pursuit of excellence.

CTU CONSOLACION PUTS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS INTO ACTION THROUGH HANDS-ON SAFETY DEMONSTRATION

As part of the “Emergency Response & Safety Preparedness: Gender and Responsive Mental Health and Basic Skills for Emergencies and Active Shooting Incidents” training, Cebu Technological University–Consolacion Campus moved beyond classroom discussions by engaging participants in an actual demonstration of emergency response and firefighting procedures. Conducted at the CTU Consolacion Gymnasium, the practical session allowed participants to observe firsthand the proper use of firefighting gear and personal protective equipment. Facilitators demonstrated how emergency responders prepare themselves before entering potentially hazardous environments, emphasizing that proper equipment, correct procedures, and presence of mind are essential in protecting both responders and the people they serve.

A highlight of the demonstration was the presentation and actual wearing of firefighter personal protective equipment and breathing apparatus, giving participants a clearer understanding of the physical demands and safety requirements involved in emergency response. The hands-on activity complemented earlier discussions on fire behavior, firefighting tools and equipment, and basic responder skills. Through actual demonstration and participant involvement, technical concepts were transformed into practical learning experiences, reinforcing the importance of familiarity with emergency equipment before a real crisis occurs. The activity also emphasized teamwork, discipline, communication, and adherence to established safety protocols as critical elements of an effective emergency response.

The practical demonstration underscored CTU Consolacion’s continuing commitment to creating a safer, more prepared, and more resilient campus community. By providing opportunities to see, experience, and practice emergency response procedures, the training strengthened participants’ confidence and readiness to respond appropriately when confronted with fire, security threats, or other emergencies. More than acquiring technical knowledge, the activity promoted a culture in which preparedness becomes a shared responsibility—reminding everyone that during an emergency, knowing what to do, acting decisively, and working together can make the difference between panic and an organized response, and ultimately between greater risk and the protection of lives.

CEBUTECH CONSOLACION STRENGTHENS CAMPUS READINESS THROUGH EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND SAFETY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING

ATM: Cebu Technological University– Consolacion Campus reinforced its commitment to campus safety and disaster preparedness through the conduct of the “Emergency Response & Safety Preparedness: Gender and Responsive Mental Health and Basic Skills for Emergencies and Active Shooting Incidents” training on September 4, 2026, at the CTU Consolacion Gymnasium. The whole-day activity brought together members of the university community for an intensive learning experience aimed at strengthening awareness, practical emergency response skills, and preparedness for critical situations. Dr. Sarah Jane A. Colina, Campus Director, formally welcomed the participants through her opening remarks, while Mr. Herminio A. Pepito Jr., Campus DRRM/Student Quick Response Team Adviser, presented the rationale of the activity and emphasized the importance of developing a campus community that is prepared, responsive, and capable of acting appropriately during emergencies.

A major component of the program focused on preparing participants for security-related and emergency situations. The morning session featured a discussion by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Active Shooter Emergency, providing participants with essential knowledge on situational awareness, appropriate emergency actions, coordination with authorities, and the importance of remaining alert during potentially life-threatening incidents. This will be followed by a session facilitated by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on basic skills for responders, including an introduction to relevant legal mandates such as the Fire Code and DILG requirements, the organization of company fire brigades, and the importance of proper training and identification of designated emergency responders. These discussions will highlight that effective emergency management depends not only on equipment and protocols but also on informed, disciplined, and coordinated action.

The training will further strengthen the participants’ technical understanding through discussions on the concepts and chemistry of fire, fire behavior, stages of fire, and conventional methods of extinguishment. During the afternoon session, participants will be introduced to essential firefighting tools and equipment, including portable fire extinguishers, fire hoses, nozzles, and personal protective equipment. More importantly, the activity will move beyond classroom-based learning through return demonstrations and drills, allowing participants to translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills. The inclusion of gender responsiveness and mental health awareness also underscored the need for emergency preparedness programs to recognize the different needs, vulnerabilities, and psychological responses of individuals during crises, thereby promoting a more inclusive and humane approach to campus safety.

The activity will be concluded this afternoon with the awarding of certificates and closing ceremonies, with Mr. Roland P. Recamara, Chief Security Officer, delivering the closing remarks. The successful conduct of the training demonstrated CTU Consolacion Campus’ continuing commitment to building a culture of preparedness, prevention, resilience, and shared responsibility among its stakeholders. Through the collaboration of the Campus DRRM, Student Quick Response Team, security personnel, PNP, BFP, and the university administration, the initiative served as an important reminder that emergency preparedness is everyone’s responsibility. More than simply knowing what to do during a crisis, the training sought to develop individuals who are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, presence of mind, and practical skills necessary to protect themselves and assist others when every second matters.

CTU IAI CHAIRPERSONS STRENGTHEN GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT THROUGH INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE, RESEARCH, AND LECTURESHIP PROGRAMS

The Internationalization and ASEAN Integration (IAI) Chairpersons from the different campuses of Cebu Technological University (CTU) convened on September 2, 2026, for a coordination meeting aimed at updating and rolling out the University’s internationalization initiatives. Spearheaded by Dr. Rhodora G. Magan, University Director for Internationalization and ASEAN Integration, the meeting provided an important venue for aligning campus-level efforts with CTU’s broader goal of strengthening its presence and partnerships in the global academic community. The gathering brought together IAI representatives to discuss upcoming international activities, institutional responsibilities, and opportunities that will benefit both students and faculty members.

Among the major matters discussed were preparations for HEPCON 2026, scheduled on October 1–2, as well as the Taiwan Education Fair 2026, which is expected to feature universities from Taiwan and provide opportunities for academic networking and potential partnerships. The meeting also tackled the orientation of CebuTech exchange students to Bangladesh, demonstrating CTU’s continuing commitment to promoting intercultural learning and providing students in a new academic environment. Discussions likewise covered international linkages, protocols, accreditation concerns, and other mechanisms necessary to ensure that international programs are properly coordinated and effectively implemented across the University’s campuses.

Another significant focus of the meeting was the expansion of faculty research, international lectureship, and academic mobility opportunities. Prospective lectureship engagements and institutional collaborations involving countries such as Portugal, Italy, South Korea, Vietnam, Japan, and Germany were presented and discussed. These initiatives are envisioned to provide CTU faculty members with opportunities to share their expertise internationally, participate in cross-cultural academic exchanges, establish research networks, and bring global perspectives and best practices back to their respective campuses. The meeting also emphasized research proposals and other academic deliverables that can strengthen CTU’s participation in international research and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Through the collective efforts of the University IAI Office and the IAI Chairpersons of the different CTU campuses, the University continues to advance an internationalization agenda that goes beyond establishing partnerships—it seeks to create meaningful opportunities for students and faculty to learn, collaborate, conduct research, and engage across borders. Under the leadership of Dr. Magan, the meeting reinforced the importance of coordination, shared responsibility, and active campus participation in transforming international opportunities into concrete academic experiences. As CTU expands its global network, these initiatives contribute significantly to developing globally competent students, internationally engaged faculty members, and a university community that is increasingly connected to the wider ASEAN region and the world.
