On April 23, 2026 the Department of Environmental Engineering (DEnE) conducted the ๐‘ช๐‘ฌ๐‘ป ๐‘ฐ๐‘ฏ๐‘ฌ๐‘ณ๐‘ท: ๐‘จ๐’๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ฒ๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’Œ๐’‚๐’”๐’‚๐’, ๐‘จ๐’๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ฒ๐’‚๐’๐’–๐’”๐’–๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’ seminar at Barangay Luna, Claveria Misamis Oriental. This extension activity is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and public health. Held in celebration of Earth Day, the event aimed to educate community residents on the vital connection between a healthy environment and overall well-being.

The Department's expertise provided valuable insights into sustainable practices and environmental protection. Their involvement ensured that the information shared was both scientifically grounded and practical for everyday application within the community.

Central to the seminar was the message that caring for the environment is not just a global responsibility but a personal one. ๐‘ฌ๐’๐’ˆ๐’“. ๐‘ช๐’‰๐’†๐’†๐’“๐’š ๐‘ธ. ๐‘ฑ๐’๐’š๐’๐’ highlighted how improper waste disposal, pollution, and neglect of natural resources contribute to health risks such as respiratory illnesses, waterborne diseases, and food insecurity. By contrast, maintaining clean surroundings, practicing proper waste segregation, and supporting local environmental programs can significantly improve quality of life.

The Alagang Kalikasan, Alagang Kalusugan initiative emphasized simple yet impactful actionsโ€”reducing plastic use, planting trees, conserving water, and keeping communities clean. These efforts, while seemingly small, collectively create a safer and healthier environment for everyone.

As the event concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of responsibility and empowerment. The seminar successfully inspired the community of Barangay Luna to take active roles in safeguarding the environmentโ€”proving that when people come together with a shared purpose, meaningful change is possible.

This innovative research highlights the use of alkaline-treated human hair as a sustainable, low-cost adsorbent for removing toxic Rhodamine B dye from water. The study demonstrated an impressive 85.71% removal efficiency under optimal conditions and confirmed the process follows Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetics, indicating effective dye binding.

Authored by BSEnE students, Aldan Rae I. Tubo, Rowenelle G. Doblas, Kristine Cyra N. Hallasgo, Angel Mae C. Dulas, and John Greggory B. Bullecer, with the guidance of advisers Val Irvin F. Mabayo and Efren A. Pagalan Jr., this work showcases a promising eco-friendly solution for wastewater treatment, contributing to cleaner and safer water systems. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ง

However, under outdoor exposure, all three toxins were found to degrade completely before the 10th day. The study also indicates that the presence of fulvic and humic acids may enhance the degradation of these cyanotoxins. Additionally, the stability and removal of the toxins are significantly influenced by factors such as sample preservation methods and the composition of the water matrix.
