Market Basket Challenge - A Grand Finale for Kitchen Essentials!

"Experience is the best teacher, and through practical application, we transform knowledge into mastery."

This philosophy came to life as the First-Year Hospitality Management students recently completed their final laboratory for the Kitchen Essentials subject with a thrilling Market Basket Challenge! This hands-on activity showcased their culinary creativity, teamwork, and technical expertise as they worked to create an unforgettable dining experience.

In this challenge, each group of three students was given a market basket of ingredients and tasked with preparing:
•1 Appetizer
•1 Main Course (featuring starch and sidings)
•1 Dessert

The theme guided the students to explore diverse culinary techniques while bringing harmony to their dishes.
Judging Criteria:
•Taste: How delicious and well-balanced the flavors were.
•Visual Appeal: The artistic presentation of the dishes.
•Creativity of the Recipe: Innovative and thoughtful use of ingredients.
•Techniques: Proper ex*****on of culinary methods.
•Cleanliness During Preparation: Maintaining a safe and hygienic environment.

To impress the judges, students needed to ensure that all three courses complemented each other in flavor, taste, and style, creating a cohesive and delightful dining experience.

The Market Basket Challenge was more than just an assessment; it celebrated growth, creativity, and collaboration. These HM students demonstrated their passion and potential, bringing the skills they’ve honed throughout the semester to life.

At the heart of the 1st Diyandi sa PALMA: The Ultimate Hospitality Skills Showdown, a captivating performance of multicultural dances by 4th-year HM students stole the spotlight. From vibrant steps to rhythmic beats, this showcase wasn’t just entertainment but a tribute to the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage and diversity.

Diyandi means festivity, unity, and thanksgiving; nothing embodied this spirit more than the dancers. Through every move, they honored the traditions of Indigenous peoples, celebrated the beauty of multicultural harmony, and reminded us of the power of culture to connect us all.

This wasn’t just about preserving heritage; it was about weaving it into the future of hospitality. By embracing multicultural diversity, students learn to celebrate differences, appreciate traditions, and create meaningful connections—essential traits for future tourism and hospitality professionals.

🎬 Final Requirement: Life and Works of Rizal Film Project 🎬

The 4th-year BSHM students from Sections A, B, and C, under the guidance of GE instructors Arnel C. Bibat and Karen F. Testado, have taken on an ambitious and creative project for their Life and Works of Dr. José Rizal subject. For their final requirement, they have conceptualized and produced a film that brings to life our national hero's values, ideals, and contributions in a way that resonates with today’s audience.

Throughout the semester, the students have immersed themselves in every phase of filmmaking—from writing the screenplay, crafting key scenes, and casting actors, to planning the visual style, including sound, lighting, and set design. They have dedicated countless hours rehearsing, filming, and editing to bring Rizal’s story to the screen. The project has allowed them to explore themes of education, patriotism, and peaceful change while connecting Rizal’s timeless messages from Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo to today’s social issues.

This film project is not just a creative output; it is a powerful learning experience that deepens their understanding of Rizal’s legacy and encourages reflection on Filipino identity. Through their collaboration and hard work, the students have created a film that honors Rizal’s contributions and inspires others to reflect on how his ideas remain relevant in the modern world.
