The Hugyawan Festival Entablado-Sayaw on December 4, 2024, commemorated this year’s 117th NORSU Founding Anniversary of Negros Oriental State University. The traditional festival, held at the Cultural Sports Complex of the Main Campus, was participated in by the different colleges, which showcased the best of their 'hugyaw' dance performances.

Participating were the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Business Administration (CBA), College of Industrial Technology (CIT), College of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Allied Health Sciences (CNPAHS), College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery, NORSU Bayawan-Sta. Catalina Campus, NORSU Mabinay Campus, NORSU Siaton Campus, and NORSU Bais, which finished as the 4th Runner-Up. The College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) was declared the 3rd Runner-Up, while the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) ended as the 2nd Runner-Up, and the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) came in as the 1st Runner-Up.

The College of Teacher Education declared as champion, bagging all of the minor awards: Most Disciplined, Best Entablado Sayaw, Best in Costume, Best in Choreography, and Most Hugyaw Group.

University President Dr. Noel Marjon E. Yasi officially closed the week-long celebration with a message of gratitude and appreciation for everyone who made the celebration a great success.

The Investiture of the 4th University President, Hon. Noel Marjon E. Yasi, Psy.D., was held yesterday afternoon, December 3, at the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Complex, with all of the honorable guests present to deliver their salutation speeches.

The inauguration was attended by many notable individuals, including CHED Commissioner Hon. Shirley C. Agrupis, NORSU Board Members Hon. Jose Edwin Martinez and Hon. Atty. Jennifer Simone J. Tinagan. On behalf of Gov. Chaco Sagarbarria, Hon. Maiza Sagarbarria was in attendance, along with the CHED Director of the Negros Island Region, Dr. Raul C. Alvarez, and former CHED Commissioner Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag. Also present were OIC President Dr. Peter T. Dayot, and the first Negros Oriental State University President, Dr. Henry A. Sojor, who delivered his salutation message before Dr. Joel P. Limson provided the closing statement of the event. Other notable attendees included the presidents of state universities in Dumaguete, Sr. Mila Grace A. Silab of Saint Paul’s University, Dr. Mira D. Sinco of Foundation University, Dr. Steven J. Sumaylo, President of Siquijor State College, and NORSU faculty members. The aforementioned guests were acknowledged by Dr. Edwin F. Romano, Ph.D., Vice President for Research, Innovation, Development, and Extension, followed by the welcoming remarks of Dr. Merivic G. Catada, Ph.D., Vice President for Administration and Finance. NORSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Rose Marie T. Pinili, led the presentation of the president, followed by the installation of the president’s academic gown.

The venue filled with applause as Dr. Yasi delivered his inaugural address as the 4th University President, outlining his future projects and plans for the betterment of the university.

One of the highlights of the 117th Founding Anniversary of Negros Oriental State University was the gathering of employees and retirees on the night of December 2, 2024, at the Convention Center of Dumaguete City.

During the event, retired NORSU employees, as well as those who are still currently with the institution and have served for 15 years and above, were given plaques of recognition and souvenir items. University staff who have shown exemplary performance in their respective areas of work and research were also recognized.

On this occasion, University President Noel Marjon E. Yasi expressed gratitude to everyone who, in one way or another, has helped strengthen Negros Oriental State University into a growing, top-performing school. He encouraged everyone to enjoy the celebration as the university commemorates its 117th Founding Anniversary.

The new king and queen were crowned on December 2, 2024, as the quest for Hara ug Hari sa NORSU was finally concluded at the NORSU Sports and Cultural Complex. The Hara sa NORSU 2024 is Maria Loida Jordan from the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE); she also received Best in Production Number, Best in Swimwear, and Best in Terno. Hari sa NORSU 2024 is Blues Bradley Yano from the College of Industrial Technology (CIT); he also bagged Best in Production Number and Best in Swimwear.

The first runners-up are Stephanie Ever Tapiz from NORSU Siaton Campus and Joseph Chandler Morqueda from the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM), who also won Best in Modern Barong. The second runners-up are Steffany Chua from the College of Business Administration (CBA) and Lark Froilan Jada from NORSU Guihulngan Campus. Chua also received Best Talent and Best Speaker, while Jada was awarded Mr. Professionalism.

Angel Therese Cuevas from the College of Teacher Education (CTED) placed as the third runner-up, along with Nico Vicente Arbas from the College of Business Administration (CBA), who also received Mr. Photogenic and Best in Talent. Additionally, Laura Gee Masicampo from NORSU Guihulngan won Miss Professionalism, Miss Social Media, and Miss Photogenic, while Gyles Vincent Vallente from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CNPAHS), who won Best Speaker, secured the fourth runner-up spot.
