HISTORY OF GAMMA XI CHAPTER
Sometime in January 1979, Brother JoseLito Dogomeo, an Alphan from Gamma Beta Chapter, in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, organized a recruitment for Alpha Sigma Phi in Mount Carmel College of Escalante City. The country was then under Martial Law and the initiation activities had to be done without the knowledge of school authorities. The pioneering batch was compo
sed of Brothers Edwin Geroso, Ernesto Nacion, Danilo Canillo, Antonio Nepalar, Alejandro Duran, Mario Villamor, Oscar Blanco, and Musib Micawayan (a Gamma Beta recruit but Gamma Xi initiated). Nine members were supposed to compose the pioneering batch, but only eight members were initiated because one was absent during the final acceptance rites on February 14, 1979. Having completed the initiation process, Brother Romulo Bascar was therefore included in the 1st Batch together with Brother Robertito Bayona. Gamma Xi chapter was formally recognized by the Mount Carmel College administration sometime in February 1982. In April 1982, during the National Convention in Bohol, the convention agreed to reduce the Hazing activities included in the initiation at 25% basis per semester. The campaign continued for the next 2 years. The chapter operated continuously with sustained recognition from the school administration. In 2009, Gamma Xi Chapter have the privilege of hosting the 7th Visayas Conclave with the support of Escalante City AA at Cansimbog Beach resort, Escalante City, Negros Occidental. In 2015, Gamma Xi Chapter entered a new milestone by launching the construction of Gamma Xi Pavilion inside the school campus under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). In October 22-23, 2016, The same privilege is given to Gamma Xi Chapter when it accepted the bid for the 15th Visayas Conclave where it was held at TorboJ Place, Escalante City, Negros Occidental. Fast forward to August 2018, the school administration decided to temporarily halt all recruitment activities of the chapter for review and reevaluation. The transition of K-12 implementation with no 1st and 2nd year students further hurt the recruitment of the chapter leading to a period where no undergraduate members left in the school except those recruited family members of alumni. In December 2020, Bro Angelo Sevilleno, the member adviser during that time, made a bold move to recruit for the chapter’s membership. Among the original 6 recruits, only 2 were accepted in the person of Bro Ted Daniel Tuling and Sis Jonalyn Balbada on March 15, 2020, a day before the COVID 19 Pandemic Lockdown. A year has passed, and the chapter tanked in the recruitment as restrictions were strictly implemented as the nation entered pandemic crisis. In 2021, as the restrictions were gradually left, the chapter kicked off its recruitment process to fill in the gap in the number of undergraduates. This was also the time where the Newly amended Anti – Hazing Law (R.A. 11053) is fully implemented with IRR Memo from CHED. This recent development has paved the way for Gamma Xi Chapter to restructure all its activities to comply with the rules and the law under the guidance of Bro Angelo Sevilleno as a newly APPOINTED Regional Executive Director. The CHAPTER has entered a NEW ERA. The Chapter currently produced 4 National Board of Trustees members under ASPPICSO, Inc., namely: Bro Robert Cajeras, Bro Angelo M. Sevilleno, Bro. John Alfred Maquate and Sis Lou Reiz Mae B. In July 2024 during the 25th National Convention at Baybay, Leyte, Gamma Xi Chapter is awarded as MOST OUTSTANDING CHAPTER in the Philippines after careful evaluation of the awards committee. Up to this date, Gamma Xi have maintained a good number of scheduled activities in and out of the campus, fulfilling its mandate of service and leadership with 45 undergraduate members. On the coming October 2025, the Gamma Xi Chapter will once again host the 25th Visayas Conclave. That is how Gamma Xi chapter started and evolved and has never ceased growing despite all the hardships and challenges that the chapter encountered along the way.
