GILAS, LILACS! ๐
Students from the Bachelor of Arts in Literary and Cultural Studies (BALCS) program represented MSU-IIT at the Linguistics Society of the Philippines International Conference (LSPIC) 2026, held at West Visayas State University (WVSU), in Iloilo City, from April 23 to 25.
The annual conference, organized by the Linguistics Society of the Philippines (LSP), brings together researchers to discuss current trends and challenges in the field.
The BALCS delegation, with guidance from their former instructor, Assoc. Prof. Lourd Greggory Crisol, shared their findings on diverse themes, including q***r pop culture semiotics, digital fandom activism, and the integration of Filipino values in modern advertising, topics that align with the core pillars of the BALCS curriculum.
The student-researchers included:
- Azem L. Lomondot
- Cherymae G. Cavan
- Sherrilyn N. Villanueva
- Gisella Jean A. Petallana
- Princess L. Oniana
- Gwen Myvel L. Burlas
- Erikkshyne Lumanas
- Narciso A. Torres Jr.
By presenting at LSPIC, these students had the opportunity to engage with fellow scholars and linguists from the Philippines and abroad. Their participation also highlights the English Departmentโs commitment to research and the practical application of linguistic, literary, and cultural studies.
Congratulations. Padayon, BALCS!
