Meet our first Core Adjudication Panel, our very own capo, Miss Niña Salinas🌹
With a debating history as strong as any family empire, she carries both debate experience and seasoned adjudicating excellence into this year’s NVDC.
Straight from the capo’s consigliere, here’s an insight about her:
“When I first stepped into Nueva Vizcaya, or SMU for that matter, it was Nina who was the face of their debate circuit. She was active in competing in tournaments across the country and the region when she was in college. Yup, she is a faculty member of the Social Sciences and Philosophy Department now and the club adviser. (I want to note that during those times, the university did not have a proper debate club; it was more like a Toastmasters club, but that didn't focus much on debate.) Little did I know, we may have almost met during tournaments hosted by the Athena Debate Society of CSU, but it could have spoiled things now.
Nina Rheena or Rheena Nina (I’m still confused, by the way) is a very dynamic, supportive, and dauntless person. She pulled me into the debate society and helped me remain there, and she also pushed me to be the president of the student council (I don't know if I'm following her footsteps, but yeah, she is like a saint to me and to many students). We’ve partnered in multiple national tournaments like the Diliman Debate Open and Athena Intervarsity Invitations, and successfully penetrated those tourneys with wins and speaker awards, even with the lack of a support system in the provincial circuit.
I could say that her prowess in politics, philosophy, and international relations during debate rounds is a lifesaver (but she hates to be the first speaker, lmao). We see her as a great leader and speaker; she always runs cases with that magic of her political and mass movements analysis. She inspires not only me but a lot of neophyte debaters from Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Ifugao, and probably across Region II.
She’s my idol, my saint, my epinephrine, my blue ribbon committee. Saranghaeyo, Miss Nina! Let’s continue uplifting the debate circuit in this province and the region!”
