A one-day seminar on “Tawazun Narrative of Population Growth” was successfully organized at Khyber Medical University, Institute of Health Sciences (KMU-IHS) Hazara, on 31st October 2025 in collaboration with the Population Welfare Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The seminar began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by welcoming remarks to the distinguished guests, faculty members, and students.

Mr. Syed Imran Shah, Director Population Welfare Department delivered a comprehensive and informative presentation highlighting the current population growth trends and their impact on social, economic, and health sectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He emphasized the need to maintain a balance (“Tawazun”) between population growth and available resources to achieve sustainable development. Mr. Sohail Imran, Population Welfare Department Mansehra, also shared valuable insights regarding district-level challenges and ongoing initiatives to address population-related issues. Both speakers provided an in-depth understanding of the topic and effectively responded to questions raised by students, making the session interactive and engaging.

The Chief Guest of the event, Mr. Rehan Gul Khattak, Director General, Population Welfare Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, appreciated the efforts of KMU-IHS Hazara for organizing an informative and timely seminar. He shared his views on the importance of population balance for socio-economic stability and praised the interest shown by students and faculty in this crucial public welfare subject.

The Department of Anesthesia at KMU-IHS Hazara successfully hosted a grand celebration to commemorate World Anesthesia Day. This event underscored the department's commitment to excellence in anesthesia education and practice. The ceremony was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Tariq Abbasi, Chairperson of the Anesthesia Department at Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad, and Mr. Shafique Ahmad, Chief Anesthesia Technologist at Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad.

During the event, students demonstrated their creativity through engaging presentations, while model presentations showcased innovative approaches in anesthesia. The Department of Anesthesia at KMU-IHS Hazara meticulously organized the event, providing a valuable platform for students to exchange insights and learn from one another. Celebrating Surgical Technologists – The Backbone of the Operating Room

KMU IHS Hazara marked Surgical Day 2025 with great enthusiasm as part of Surgical Technologist Week (21–27 September). The event featured model presentations by students on Autoclave, ESU, Model Operating Room, Suction Machine, and Aseptic Techniques, showcasing their skills and dedication to surgical safety.

Honorable guests including Director Dr. Sadia Fatima, District Youth Officer Mr. Usman Saeed, Chief Surgical Technologist Mr. Yasir Arafat, and Anesthesia Technologist Mr. Shafique Nayyar appreciated the students’ efforts and highlighted the vital contribution of surgical technologists to healthcare.

The program reflected the vision of preparing surgical technologists who are not only skilled assistants but also future leaders in surgical innovation and patient care.

The program concluded with thanks and appreciation to HOD Surgical Technology, Mr. Kamran Akbar, for his leadership and successful management of the event.

📢 Important Announcement from Khyber Medical University (KMU) 📢

The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), KMU, held a review committee meeting on 11th September 2025 regarding the passing criteria and grading policy of the undergraduate semester system examinations in alignment with HEC guidelines.

✅ After detailed discussions and review of practices in other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Pakistan, it was unanimously agreed that:

➡️ KMU will adopt the HEC grading criteria of 50% passing marks for all BS programs.
➡️ This includes a minimum of 50% passing marks in each component: Practical, Projects, Thesis, Assignments, Tests, and Theory Papers (individually or in aggregate).

This important decision ensures that KMU’s semester system remains consistent with national standards and HEC policies, while supporting fairness and academic quality for all students.

We thank the honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq, the review committee members, and all faculty for their valuable input and efforts in this important reform.

KMU Successfully Holds Second Centralized Test for Admissions in Allied Health Sciences
Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar successfully conducted the second Centralized Admission Test (CAT) for admissions in Allied Health Sciences, Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and BS Nursing programs. The test was held simultaneously in 12 cities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad, with a total of 23,104 candidates appearing.
This second test was specifically organized for students who could not participate in the earlier CAT due to unavoidable reasons or technical issues, ensuring equal opportunities for all eligible applicants.
In Peshawar alone, 9,028 candidates appeared across 10 indoor examination centers, while 180 candidates sat the test at KMU Institute of Health Sciences, Islamabad. Other participation numbers included: Haripur (299), Mansehra (1,217), Swat (3,131), Lower Dir (1,541), Malakand (584), Swabi (911), Bannu (895), Kohat (937), Dera Ismail Khan (661), Kurram/Parachinar (255), Mardan (2,793), and Chitral (661).
Candidates and parents appreciated the facilities and arrangements at the examination centers, while various stakeholders commended KMU for ensuring transparency and smooth organization of the test.
Speaking on the occasion, KMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq said that the overwhelming participation of thousands of students reflects the growing realization that the health sector is not limited to medicine alone but also includes pharmacy, physiotherapy, nursing, and other allied health sciences.
He emphasized that healthcare is an integrated system where all allied disciplines play a vital role in building an effective health service delivery model. He further announced that test results will be released within two to three days and will be available on the KMU official website: http://cat.kmu.edu.pk.
Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq added that this remarkable participation demonstrates not only the trust of students and parents in KMU but also highlights the increasing awareness and interest in Allied Health Sciences across the province. He concluded that the successful conduct of the test is a milestone towards strengthening healthcare education and improving quality standards in the region.
