Inauguration Ceremony of the School of Computing and Emerging Technologies (SC&ET) KIU

The Inauguration Ceremony of the School of Computing and Emerging Technologies (SC&ET) was held at Karakoram International University (KIU). The Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, formally inaugurated the new academic unit.

The school was approved during the 43rd Academic Council meeting and consists of six departments: Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Cybersecurity.

Dr. Sabit Rahim, Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science, led the efforts to establish the school and played a vital role in getting its formal approval.

The ceremony was attended by Director QEC, Director Academics, Director ORIC, Director IPD, and senior faculty members.

The School of Computing and Emerging Technologies aims to offer modern education and research opportunities in the field of technology. It will promote innovation, digital transformation, and skills development among students.

The school is expected to prepare youth for careers in AI, cybersecurity, GIS, and software development—aligning KIU with global advancements in tech education.

Guests appreciated the leadership behind the initiative, calling it a major step toward academic growth and regional development. The Inauguration Ceremony marked a key milestone in KIU’s journey toward excellence in higher education.

Vice Chancellor KIU Dr. Attaullah Shah Honored with Prestigious Engineering Award .

Vice Chancellor of KIU, Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah, has been selected to receive a distinguished engineering award.

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), operating under the auspices of UNESCO, commemorates World Engineering Day annually on March 4th.

The Institution of Engineering Pakistan (IEP), a constituent member of WFEO, also observes this day in a grand manner each year on the same date.

This year, IEP has slated its celebration for March 4th, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the Expo Center in Johar Town, Lahore.

The event will include the presentation of the National Engineering Excellence Award to esteemed engineers who have significantly contributed to societal advancement and the engineering profession.

After meticulous evaluation of various nominees' accomplishments, the scrutiny committee has chosen Dr. Attaullah Shah for this prestigious accolade in acknowledgment of his remarkable services.

Dr. Shah is cordially invited to confirm his availability to attend the World Engineering Day program and receive the esteemed award.

Karakoram International University has been temporarily closed for an unspecified period, according to a press statement from the Director of Public Relations, Mir Taazeem Akhtar.

The decision has been taken to preempt any "untoward incident" says the press release.

It is pertinent to note that groups of students have been protesting against fee hikes at the university for several days.

The press release says that regular activities for faculty and staff will resume from November 27, 2023. Students will continue their education through an online blended learning management system, as outlined in an official notification following a high-level meeting chaired by the Vice-Chancellor.

The temporary closure also encompasses the university's girls' hostel. All three campuses of the university will continue their academic and research activities throughout this period.
