PhD Assistantship at the University of Idaho

INSPIRE is an NSF-funded, multi-institution project with the University of Idaho, University of Montana, and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. We are a diverse team spanning ecologists, economists, and sociologists with specific interest in studying climate-smart land management. INSPIRE will work to implement climate-smart land management in Inland Northwest forests and agricultural fields and study the ecological benefits, the economic impacts, and the sociological barriers to implementation. We are recruiting a PhD student to work on the ecosystem impacts portion of this project, particularly the integration of field measurements with ecosystem/biogeochemical modeling. The PhD student will work with the INSPIRE team to plan measurements and experiments that will directly inform model parameterization and evaluation. We encourage applicants with field work experience and with an interest in combining ecological model output with economic model forecasting. Experience with data analysis, coding (R), and writing manuscripts are also desired skills but are not required.

The student will be based in person at the University of Idaho, located in Moscow, Idaho. The graduate research assistantship will provide a tuition waiver, health insurance, and a competitive stipend. Desired start date is January 2025.
