First National Conference On Undergraduate Psychology Research- MAJU 2021

A note worthy occasion took place in Mohammad Ali Jinnah University of Karachi. The surging department of Psychology from this institute had organised their First ever, single-day research conference for and by undergraduate students. Many students belonging from notible universities all over Pakistan had took part by presenting their researches in this momentous event.
The exceptional occurrence was entitled as a "unique opportunity" for students by the Vice Chancellor of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Prof. Dr. Zubair Ahmed Sheikh. He further relayed that it was the first time in Pakistan that such a conference has taken place in the social sciences discipline.
The head of department of Psychology, Ms. Maryam Hanif Ghazi stated that this conference will help elevate the student's self-confidence and reliance on their own skills.
The main organiser of this event Ms. Maryum Firdous expressed her feelings by voicing out that this platform was given to instill and expand research enthusiasm among the young undergraduates.
The conference had invited keynote guest speakers such as Prof. Dr. Anila Amber Malik, Prof. Dr. Qudsia Tariq, Prof. Dr. Uzma Ali, Prof. Dr. Rafia Rafiq, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Afridi, Dr Irum Naqvi, Dr. Aisha Zubair, Dr. Saima Ali and Dr. Nasreen Bano.
The students had regarded this conference as an excellent opportunity and learning initiative.

Dr. Rafia Rafique started her career in 1993 as a school counselor. She completed her PhD while serving the University in 2012. She earned Performance Evaluation Awards from University of the Punjab, Lahore Pakistan for the year 2006 - 08, 2010, 2012 - 16. Her interest and hard work in research made her earn nine research grants from 2008 to 2016 as well as Incentive awards for publications for the year 2013, 2014 and 2015. She was elected as member Senate, University of the Punjab in 2007. She is also an associate editor for Journal of Behavioral Sciences and is currently a reviewer for more than seven national and international journals. Her profile was published in the book of High Achievers “Light, Courage and Love” that paid tribute to all high achievers of Kinnaird College from 1913 to 2013.
She completed postdoctoral research from the Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology School of Medicine, University of Nottingham. She has presented at multiple national and international conferences and her research work has been published in many impact factor and HEC approved journals.

Prof Dr Qudsia is a clinical psychologist with many international accreditations to her name. She is a professional trained expert in the field of Client-Centered therapy. Her work often focuses around matters with such Mental Well-Being, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, and Social and Community related issues. She has been affiliated with the department of Psychology at University of Karachi, Pakistan. For the last 23 years where she currently serves as the Head of Department. She has many national and international publications to her credit. She is on the Boards of Governors of ICP.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Afridi is currently serving as a Dean, Dept. of Psychiatry, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, Secretary, Faculty of Psychiatry, CPSP, Project Director, NARC-International (Narcotic Alleviation Research Council), Director (Research), Karachi Psychiatric Hospital & Karachi Addiction Hospital and Visiting consultant, National Medical Centre. During his professional career, he has received numerous awards including the Life Achievement Award on World Mental Health Day, 2001,Legends of Matli Award 2006, Sir Shah Sulaiman Peace Award 2006 , Zikerya Award, in the field of Medical Science for the year 2000,Pride of performance awarded by St. John Homeopathic Medical College, 1995, DAYTOP Graduate Award by U.S. Embassy, & ANF (PNCB) Islamabad, “Avicenna Research Award '' in the international psychiatric conference, 1988. Presented research works & participated in national and international courses and conferences related to General Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine(CLP) & Addictionology. Dr Iqbal Afridi is also a member of the Sindh Mental Health Authority and Institute of Behavioral Science.
