Musharraf's Options
When USA after 9/11 threatened in 2001 to bomb and send Pakistan to stone age, what options did Gen Musharraf have? At that time Gen Musharraf was Chief Executive, technically CMLA, Chief Martial Law Administrator. Army propaganda at that time promoted that he had no options except abject, humiliating surrender,....
although he had several options as follows:
Option 1. He could have stalled for time.
Option 2. He could have announced a referundum.
Option 3. He could have convened the assembly and ask MNAs to decide (this is what Turkey did when USA demanded passage from Turkey for US army).
Option 4. He could have resigned and handed over the government to a political coalition government. Thereby delaying the decision.
However, military dictator has a single track mind. Especially if he is pompous, egoistic, power hungry, usurper like Musharraf. He could never think of out of the box and could not create political solutions.
Note Musharraf again went on to impose illegal emergency in 2007, for which supreme court convicted him for high treason and sentenced him to death.
