The Department of Sociology, FATA University arranged four days of research fieldwork for students on "climate change awareness, impacts, and adaptation strategies" in Galyat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Students were exposed to different areas in Galyat, including Changa Gali, Sajjan Gali, Nithia Gali, Dongah Gali, Ayubia, and other surrounding localities, for data collection on the topic mentioned above.
The field was conducted under the supervision of well-qualified faculty of the department (Dr. Fazal Hanan, (HoD), Mr. JehanZeb (lecturer/field supervisor), and Mr. Shahzeb (VF/field coordinator).
Field work is a research activity conducted directly in the field or real environment to practically examine a social phenomena or a problem, observe, and collect primary data. The information collected by the students in this field visit indicates that climate change adversely affects the socio-economic, and demographic conditions of the local people, whereas no effective mechanism of adaptation exists due to lack of awareness, asymmetric information, and lack of resources. The initial data suggest that the role of government, NGOs, and local actors is essential to reduce the impacts of climate change in remote areas.
