The Women Development Department’s Mega Showcase 2026 was held at Alhamra Arts Council to celebrate the resilience, leadership, and achievements of young women across Punjab under the vision of Maryam Nawaz.

The event was attended by Malik Ahmad Khan, Speaker Punjab Assembly, Parliamentary Secretary Sadia Taimoor, and Secretary Women Development Department Saman Rai.

Prof. Dr. Zaib-un-nisa Hussain,
Vice Chancellor of University of Home Economics Lahore graced the event alongside the Women Development Centre (WDC) team of the university.

During the ceremony, Parliamentary Secretary Ms. Sadia Taimoor appreciated the continued support and encouragement extended by the Vice Chancellor towards Women Development Department initiatives.

She also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of In-Charge WDC Dr. Iram Rubab for ensuring the smooth ex*****on of various programs and activities.

The CM Female Ambassador Program was supervised by Coordinator WDC Ms. Laiba Butt, while the Pitch Competition was overseen by Coordinator WDC Ms. Saiba Ahmad.

On the occasion, Female Ambassador UHE Ms. Fizza Mubashar received a certificate and a special kit upon the successful completion of her tenure under the CM Female Ambassador Program initiative.

Social stigma pose major challenge to Mental Health

The Department of Human Development in collaboration with Department of Psychology and Department of Nutrition & Health Promotion arranged a international conference on “From Brain to Behavior: Mental Health, Neuro Development and Nutrition – An Integrated Approach for Autism Awareness”.

Speakers highlighted the growing need for a comprehensive strategy to address autism and neurodevelopmental disorders in Pakistan. Experts emphasized the importance of linking mental health, nutrition, early diagnosis, and behavioral support to improve outcomes for children and families affected by autism.

Speakers noted that limited awareness, social stigma, and inadequate healthcare facilities continue to pose major challenges in Pakistan. The conference called for stronger collaboration between healthcare professionals, educators, policymakers, and families to promote inclusive education, early intervention, and evidence-based support systems across the country.

Participants stressed that such initiatives are essential for building a more informed and compassionate society, while also strengthening Pakistan’s public health and child development frameworks for the future.

UHE Holds Session on Challenges for Young Journalist

Mr. Usman Ahmed Bahtti, senior journalist and advisor to Prime Minister of Pakistan, delivered a special lecture to the students of Media and Communication Studies of University of Home Economics Lahore.

The Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the Directorate of Student Affairs, organized an insightful and engaging seminar titled “Countering Extremism through Critical Thinking and Dialogue.”

Dr. Irfan Ali Fani (Head Department of Politics and International Relations, UCP) and Dr. Rabia Iftikhar (Assistant Professor and Head, Clinical Psychology Unit, GCU).

The speakers emphasized the importance of patience, acceptance of diverse perspectives, and effective communication as essential strategies for mitigating extremism.

Dr. Fani provided valuable insights into extremism within international and political contexts, while also discussing practical approaches to addressing this growing concern.

Dr. Rabia explored the psychological underpinnings of extremism, highlighting relevant theories and emphasizing the role of critical thinking in fostering resilience against extremist ideologies.

UHE Holds Ceremony to Mark First Anniversary of “Marka-e-Haq”

The University of Home Economics Lahore on Wednesday organised a ceremony titled “Jashan-e-Marka-e-Haq” to commemorate the first anniversary of the operation, where defence analysts, academicians and media personalities highlighted Pakistan’s military preparedness, strategic capabilities and national unity.

The event was attended by Air Vice Marshal (R) Sajid Habib, Brig (R) Ghazanfar Ali, Prof. Dr Zaib-un-nisa Hussain, VC UHE, senior journalist Salman Ghani, and representatives of the Prime Minister Youth Programme, including Rizwan Anwar and Maha Jamil.

A contingent of women police officers presented a guard of honour during the ceremony in recognition of the services and sacrifices rendered by Pakistan’s armed forces.

Speaking on the occasion, Salman Ghani said Pakistan’s armed forces had demonstrated exceptional professionalism and strategic competence in safeguarding the country against external threats. He said the operation reflected the unity, resilience and collective resolve of the nation.

Air Vice Marshal (r) Sajid Habib said the successful ex*****on of modern warfare strategies and the effective utilisation of advanced defence systems had strengthened Pakistan’s operational capabilities and defence posture.

Prof. Dr Zaib-un-nisa Hussain said the entire nation took pride in the achievements and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces. She said universities had an important role in promoting patriotism, national awareness and civic responsibility among students.

Addressing the participants, Brig (r) Ghazanfar Ali said Pakistan had demonstrated its capabilities not only on the battlefield but also in the fields of technology and strategic planning. He added that Pakistan’s multi-domain operational framework was now being discussed in defence and war studies institutions.

The ceremony concluded with participants reaffirming their support for national unity, institutional strength and the role of youth in the country’s development and security
