Overview of the Department
As a hub of intellectual inquiry, the Department of Sociology addresses the pressing challenges of modern society through education and research. The department provides students with the tools to navigate and influence global transformations in an era of rapid societal shifts.
Offering a bachelor’s degree in sociology, we combine theoretical and practical courses, service learning, and research to develop critical thinkers, effective leaders, and innovative changemakers. Our curriculum explores the complexities of family, education, work, politics, media, public health, and more, emphasising public speaking, creative writing, and an understanding of legal and social dynamics. Classical and contemporary sociological theories enrich this.
Guided by a faculty engaged in interdisciplinary research, we provide a welcoming environment for students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds. A student-centred approach ensures a holistic academic experience, encouraging participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities for personal and professional growth. Practical exposure is a cornerstone of the programme, with internships at NGOs, NPOs, social welfare departments, research centres, think tanks, and media organisations.
