Governance & Policy Project Merged Areas

The project is financed through Pakistan Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF). Component III through Directorate for Post Crisis Needs Assessment (PCNA).

Governance & Policy Project (GPP), Merged Areas was launched to “Strengthen the capacity of staff in the Merged Areas to manage public resources, and improve accountability in the delivery of public services”. It has three components, Component I and II are managed by Finance Department and P&D Departments respectively while Operational Support i.e.

26 Participants of departments from Malakand, Swat, shangla, Buner and Bajaur participated in 6th Session of two days long training at Swat on GIS Decision Support System of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Mr. Imran Zahoor, Coordinator GPP Merged Areas formally concluded the training session.

Training was arranged by Governance & Policy Project Merged Areas in collaboration with GIS Hub Planning and Development Department under Component II of project focusing strengthening Public Invest Management in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mr. Amir Ali Shah, ADC Dir Upper graced the occasion to host a training as chief guest at Dir Upper. The training was organized by GIS Hub, Planning and Development Department with the support of Governance & Policy Project for Merged Districts to train the line departments on GIS Decision Support System.

This system is currently in use to collect GIS data of all the departments and then to use the same for improved decision making, avoid duplication of work, and informed decisions in the appraisal process of ADP schemes.
In this phase, 27 trainees of the line departments from Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, and Lower Dir participated in a two days long training.

Training Session on GIS based Decision Support System developed by GIS Hub P&D Department currently going on in Dera Ismael Khan for officers of the line departments and District Administrations in DI Khan Division. 26 Official including 1 female officer is participating in the two days long training session.

Mr. Imran Khan (Senior Sector Specialist) and Ms. Marlene Schild (Portfolio Manager), the KFW delegates visited Planning & Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Delegates were briefed about achievements made by the Governance & Policy Project in Merged Areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the chairmanship of Chief Economist Mr. Muhammad Ali Asghar. Later delegation visited GIS-HUB to view demonstration of GIS decision Support System, meet key officials of Finance Department. Mr. Zahir Shah DG PCNA, Mr. Imran Zahoor Coordinator OSU and other representatives of GPP KP & Merged Areas also attended the meeting.

First Divisional Level Training on GIS Decision Support System organized by Governance & Policy Project for Merged. 25 trainees of line departments from Peshawar, Mohmand, Khyber, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda and Nowsehra are participating in the two days long training.

12th Batch of Drawing & Disbursement Officers (DDOs) from Education Department has completed 5 Days long training under Capacity Building Program for Drawing & Disbursing Officers organized by the Governance & Policy Project for Merged Areas.

GPP Merged Areas is strengthening District Finance & Planning Function and Account Offices in the Merged Areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Last Session of Trainings on IFMIS for Operations Staff of District Accounts Officers and AG Office Staff is currently under progress. 25 Officers are attending training from Districts of Peshawar Division.

3rd Batch of DDOs training held on 5-9 September, 2022 at Pakistan Institute of Management (PIM) at Lahore. 25 District & Session Judges, Registrars, Additional Registrars, Director Finance, Accounts officers having portfolio of DDOs from Merged Districts participated in the training.

Governance & Policy Project for Merged Areas is implementing "Capacity Building Program for Drawing and Disbursement Officers (DDOs) training approximately 625 DDOs working in the merged areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa". The objective of the program is "to Increase Transparency and Accountability in use of public resources for effective scrutiny, budget ex*****on and management oversight".

2nd Batch of training held between 22-26 August, 2022 at Pakistan Institute of Management at Lahore, 31 DDOs from Merged Districts participated in the training.

MoU signed between Finance Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan Institute of Management (PIM) to delivery Training Program for the Drawing & Disbursement Officers (DDOs) serving in Merged Areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Signing Ceremony was held at Islamabad, attended by the senior management of Finance department and PIM. Training Program includes building capacity of 650 DDOs under Governance & Policy Project for Merged Areas financed Capacity Building Program.

Senior Officials from District Account Offices of Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Buner and Dir Lower attending training on IFMIS organized through GPP Merged Areas. 14 Supervisory Level officers from 5 DAO are participating in the session held on 7-8 March, 2022.
