This agile approach adapted protections to the evolving threat while maintaining high enforcement accuracy.

Thursday, December 4: F5, Imperva, and Google deployed defensive protections into their stacks.

Friday, December 5: Microsoft Azure rolled out their protection rules. Concurrently, Cloudflare released an untested global update to their security system regarding CVE-2025-55182. Without staged canary testing or validation, the signature change triggered an active loop failure, inducing a significant outage that took customer applications entirely offline.

IBM:

The hottest chips in Silicon Valley are no longer coming from just the usual suspects. At Hot Chips 2026, the annual conference where chipmakers and researchers gather to unveil new processor and system designs, cloud providers and frontier AI companies shared the stage with longtime computing innovators. And according to Christian Jacobi, IBM Fellow and CTO for Systems Development, who was on site at the conference, the lineup reflected just how crowded the field has become.

“Everybody designs their chips with AI in mind—agentic workflows and collaboration between the CPUs and GPUs,” he told IBM Think in an interview.

But while many companies are designing their own chips to power agentic workflows, IBM opened the conference with a different kind of innovation. The company introduced a first-of-its-kind dual-architecture processor that combines traditional enterprise workloads and AI processing on the same chip.

Why? A growing number of organizations want to run AI inference close to where their data already resides. Much of that data sits on IBM mainframes, which support more than 70% of the world’s economic transactions. At the same time, much of the AI software that organizations want to bring into core operations is built for the Arm software ecosystem, which counts roughly 20 million developers worldwide. Rather than forcing customers to move data between environments, IBM and Arm are bringing those workloads together on a single processor that will power future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems.

From the perspective of a software engineer, this is “going to make life a whole lot easier,” said Gabe Goodhart, IBM’s Chief Architect of AI Foundations, on the Mixture of Experts podcast. “Rather than bringing the mainframe code out and sacrificing that reliability you’ve come to depend on, why don’t we bring the modern AI code in?”

In practice, that means many mainframe users will be able to deploy far more AI applications that live closer to their mission-critical transactions and data, Jacobi said. They won’t necessarily need to build separate infrastructure, and the processor cores, which natively execute both IBM and Arm instruction sets, can switch between the two workloads in nanoseconds.

As conference goers were obsessed with what’s on the chip, IBM emphasized what happens on and around it. The next chapter of the summer of silicon may be written not by the fastest processor alone, but by the companies that can connect AI to the messy realities of enterprise computing.

1. You started your career in chemical engineering. What from that experience still influences how you lead today?

More than you might expect. Engineering taught me to approach challenges analytically, ask questions, and work through complex problems. I still rely on that mindset today.

What has changed is the type of problems I'm solving. Over time, I discovered that what really energized me is connecting with people and understanding what motivates them, bringing different perspectives together and helping organizations and people perform at their best.



2. You've worked around the world and lived on three continents. What did those experiences teach you about leading people?

Working across different countries and cultures forces you to listen. You learn to enter a new environment knowing you don’t have all the answers. You observe, ask questions, build relationships, and adapt. That's an important leadership skill regardless of where you're working. The best leaders don't expect everyone to think or operate exactly as they do.



3. You've described resilience as one of the qualities that defines you. What does resilience look like in practice?

For me, resilience isn't about being unaffected by change. It's taking fear and changing it to courage to navigate new things.

I've spent three decades taking on different roles, working in different environments, and moving to different parts of the world. I've learned that I can land somewhere unfamiliar, figure out what I need to learn, bring teams together, and collectively find a way forward.



4. What role does belonging play in building a high-performing organization?

A significant one. One of the things that drew me to HPE was the culture and the sense that I belonged here. Representation is part of that. When people see leaders with different experiences and backgrounds, it helps expand their sense of what's possible for them. But belonging goes beyond representation. It's about creating an environment where people feel valued, can contribute, and can envision themselves continuing to grow.

5. As the workplace continues to change, what do you think people need most from leaders?

Clarity, connection, and a commitment to learning. The pace of change means leaders won't always have every answer, but they can provide clarity on where we're headed, why it matters, and how each person contributes. Just as important is creating a culture where continuous learning is part of the job. And as leaders, we must stay curious. We can't ask others to embrace change if we're not willing to keep evolving, too.

6. You also talk about wellness as an important part of the employee experience. What responsibility do leaders have in that conversation?

Leaders have to model what they encourage. It's easy to tell people to prioritize their well-being. It's different to create a culture where they genuinely feel they can do it. That's one reason I'm so proud of HPE's Wellness Fridays. I try to use that time myself, whether it’s going to the gym, practicing yoga or making matchas for my kids. Culture isn't just what we tell people is important. It's what they see us practice.

7. What would you tell someone considering a career move that doesn't seem like an obvious next step?

Don't dismiss an opportunity simply because it doesn't look like the path you imagined.

When I first had the opportunity to lead HR, it wasn’t something I had planned on. But taking that chance opened an entirely different chapter of my career. Often times, career moves that take you somewhere completely unexpected can often be the ones to give you the experience you need for what's ahead.

IBM:

The best way to get more from AI agents may be to stop asking one agent to do everything and start redesigning the work around a team.

Ari Sheinkin is putting that idea into practice at scale. As Chief Marketing Officer of IBM Consulting, he helps lead product marketing for a business of roughly USD 23 billion and spends about half his time working with clients. In his day-to-day work, he has been experimenting with specialized AI agents while keeping people responsible for direction, judgment and the final call.

What he has learned is less about finding the perfect prompt than about rethinking how the work gets done. AI cannot fix a bad process simply by making it faster, he says. The bigger opportunity is to decide what agents should handle, what people should handle and which parts of a process may need to change altogether.

“AI gives you permission to rethink how work gets done,” Sheinkin told IBM in an interview. “The more provocative you’re willing to be on what that could mean—not starting with technology, but work—the more profound it can be.”
