How I got an F at the University of Juba during my study time?
There is no joke when it comes to getting the right knowledge. You either fight for it by paying a price or you remain silent and get given some rotten material knowledge.
I was a victim of some fake lecturers at the University of Juba.
This doesn't mean all lecturers there hold weak papers or are weak academically. There are well ahead teachers too, whom we were proud of.
I remember was a londoner, he had just returned from abroad. The college took long to identify a lecturer for Computing.
After some time, a well dressed guy was at the front with our class coordinator for introduction. He was confident and had looked learned.
He began by introducing himself while writing on the chalkboard. At the beginning, his hand writing was like a millipede track while the way the handle the chalkboard was another area of fear v
He told us that he had taught Computing in Europe for years. Some of my colleagues who could still remember the incident knows how it happened.
When he started lecturing the subject from the word go. No one was getting the concept. We kept quiet for one whole week although there were some under-the-table conversations each time he was on the chalkboard.
Then, later, in week two, I asked him whether he understood what he was teaching. He asked me why. I told him, sir, "the topic you are teaching is not supposed to be taught in theory alone. That we need computers to demonstrate and perform few practical exercises on the concept".
Guess his next move, he stared intently at me before he started abusing me in loud voice. Then asked to know who I was. I told him my names. Some of my colleagues were telling me secretly not to tell my real names but I didn't bother. I gave him my three names.
The year was 2014, and we were in year three, Seventh semester. The guy went away never to be seen to again. All we saw was his exam paper which he set on the areas we covered with him....
We set and when my results came I was given a clean fat "F" for the first time of my study. That is the "F" which I later clear but still shows a "C" in enclosed brackets on my Bachelor Degree....
Surprisingly 98% of the class failed including the sharpest learners. I was one of them. The magnitude of failure led the college to launch an investigation to find out where the problem was. Fortunately, they got who was the problem.
He did that and took his flight to England where he resides to date. He has never been seen at the campus to date.
When I checked my results with an F, I didn't regret it at all. I knew I was going to pay a price for speaking for my colleagues and eventually liberating my colleagues.
Our department later decided after receiving numerous complaints from different departments about the inability of this particular lecturer, to bring Dr. Anthony to take on the subject.
Dr. Anthony was knowledgeable in the subject and that later led the University management to pick him to the Dean of the College of Computer science till recently and I think he is yet the one.....
That was that time. And I thought with Prof. Akech as the vice Chancellor, such things won't continue at the campus but it seems employment of weak lecturers has increased as of late.
Some of the lecturers whom I have heard to be teaching there are people who should go back to Secondary schools to study.....Baai ala ke riak!
Moral of the story: You can't achieve anything unless you sacrifice for it....
