Twic edge Yirol East to lift BCPT trophy in Juba
Twic County beat Yirol East 1–0 on Thursday to win the Bahr el Ghazal Counties Peace Tournament final at Juba National Stadium.
A lone goal was enough to separate the two sides in a match that drew a large crowd and heavy attention online. The competition, promoted as a symbol of unity, brought together teams from across the region.
Francis Amin Michael, president of the South Sudan Football Association, said plans are underway to make the tournament part of the official calendar. “Next year, we’ll select dates for this competition, we’re planning to integrate this in our calendar,” he said.
Youth and Sports Minister Mary Nyawai Martin urged young people to embrace peace through football. “Youths time has come for you to love this country. If you love this country, you’ll not be driven by any politician to rebel,” she said. “If you go for rebellion, you’ll die at a younger age. But if you love this country, you’ll live long and rule this country.”
Organisers say preparations will begin soon for next year’s edition.
