📢 CMMU collaborative research efforts gain global recognition at Cornell University

BANGKOK, THAILAND. The College of Management, Mahidol University (CMMU) is pleased to announce that a groundbreaking study published by scholars from Cornell University, the University of Notre Dame and Peking University, has prominently cited foundational environmental policy research, collaborative research efforts of Asst. Prof. Dr. Suthep Nimsai of CMMU, Dr. Nattapan Kongbuamai of Mae Fah Luang University, and Dr. Quocviet Bui of Beijing Institute of Technology.

Dr. Nimsai's prominent study in 2021, titled "The effects of renewable and nonrenewable energy consumption on the ecological footprint: the role of environmental policy in BRICS countries", was a highly collaborative, cross-border initiative. Dr. Nimsai worked closely with co-researchers Kongbuamai and Bui. Together, they created advanced frameworks to analyze climate governance in the BRICS economies.

The Cornell-led paper, titled "From Policy to Progress: How Stringent Environmental Policies Drive Global Energy Transitions" by Yongheng Li and Sisi Meng, has been published in the journal Climate. It relies on the collaborative econometric insights to build its global policy framework. The researchers use Dr. Nimsai's research alongside other literature to establish that prior research heavily relies on broad aggregate indices and direct environmental indicators. This CMMU collaborative research allows the researchers to carve out their own research gap: analyzing 13 next-level sub-index policy instruments and utilizing GDP-adjusted intensity measures within G20 countries.

🎤 "Our 2021 study clarified how regulations reduce ecological footprints across emerging economies," stated Dr. Nimsai, CMMU Deputy Dean of Academic Programs & Academic Affairs. "Seeing our data utilized by researchers at Cornell, Peking and Notre Dame to analyze G20 policy instruments is highly rewarding. It confirms that Southeast Asian sustainability insights have direct value for global policy modeling."

To mark this global milestone, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prattana Punnakitikashem, the Dean of CMMU, shared her perspective on the international reach of the CMMU research:
🎤 "This major milestone highlights the exceptional power of cross-border academic collaboration. Seeing Dr. Suthep Nimsai's critical insights on sustainability dynamics explicitly cited by scholars from university like Cornell University proves that our faculty's research directly steers global policy debates. By bridging regional data with top-tier international analytical frameworks, CMMU continues to position itself at the forefront of global climate governance debates. At CMMU, we remain deeply dedicated to producing rigorous, high-impact research that helps both corporate leaders and international governments navigate complex environmental regulations and achieve meaningful energy transitions."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
📢 From CMMU Master's Thesis to Oxford University Handbook

BANGKOK, THAILAND — The College of Management, Mahidol University (CMMU) has once again achieved global recognition. Its pioneering Sustainability Vision theory is featured in The Oxford Handbook of Leadership, Followership, and Identity published by Oxford University Press, the publishing house of the prestigious University of Oxford. It is the Handbook that top business schools and training houses around the world use when it comes to teaching leadership.

The inclusion of Mahidol University’s theory of Sustainability Vision appears in Chapter 23, titled "Crafting Future Selves: A Review of the Visionary Leadership Literature". It is a core feature of the newly released The Oxford Handbook of Leadership, Followership, and Identity, co-authored by internationally renowned leadership scholars Daan Stam, Daan van Knippenberg, Eric Kearney, and Qi Zhang.

The Oxford handbook specifically features the CMMU findings from an empirical report, titled "A Test of the Sustainability Vision Theory: Is It Practical?", by Nijsiree Vongariyajit and Sooksan Kantabutra (2021), which practically tested the Mahidol theory directly within the retail industry in Thailand. The Oxford handbook authors critically note that while much global leadership research suffers from flawed, subjective surveys, a rigorous academic countermovement has emerged. The Oxford handbook explicitly spotlights CMMU’s work as a premier example of this elite group of studies utilizing creative and objective research methodologies.

🎤 "Having our Sustainability Vision theory formally reviewed and complimented by professors like Daan van Knippenberg and Daan Stam is an extraordinary milestone for CMMU," stated CMMU Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sooksan Kantabutra. "These scholars are universally regarded as the world's leading authorities on organizational vision and identity. For them to explicitly endorse our empirical model as creative proves that the corporate sustainability frameworks we are pioneering in Thailand possess powerful, universal validity for organizations worldwide."

🎤 “I first learned about the Vision theory in one of my Master’s degree courses at CMMU, and was fortunate to have the opportunity to test its practicality in Thai retailers. Being recognized by an institution as esteemed as the University of Oxford validates our efforts to bring rigorous, empirical data to the forefront of sustainable leadership practice," added Ms. Nijsiree Vongariyajit, a CMMU MM graduate and the co-investigator of the featured study. "Our findings demonstrate that a Sustainability Vision isn't just corporate rhetoric. When retail managers actively communicate a vision containing these theorized components—both in person and via modern digital tools—it unlocks a tangible sense of empowerment and motivation across the entire workforce, laying the foundation for true corporate resilience."

The practical impact of CMMU’s academic curriculum is echoed by its alumni, who continue to implement these frameworks successfully across various industries.
🎤 "Learning about the Sustainability Vision theory during my Master’s program at CMMU completely changed how I approach team management," stated Ms. Ari Arijitsatien - CEO True CJ Creations, a CMMU MM graduate. "In my position today to lead the joint venture between Thailand's True Visions Group and South Korea's CJ ENM, I still actively apply the Mahidol vision framework to communicate our organizational goals. Having a framework that balances corporate desirability with stakeholder well-being has allowed me to keep my teams deeply motivated and resilient, proving that the models developed at CMMU are highly practical, enduring tools for real-world business leadership," said Ms. Ari Arijitsatien.

The inclusion of this theory in world-class academic literature mirrors the elite quality of education experienced by CMMU students in the classroom and implemented in the boardroom.
🎤 "This recognition from the University of Oxford is a direct reflection of the top-quality, world-class education that our students receive at CMMU," stated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prattana Punnakitikashem, the Dean of CMMU. "We do not just teach global business concepts; our faculty members generate the very theories that shape international management science. By integrating this caliber of cutting-edge, globally recognized research directly into our curriculum, we ensure that our graduates enter the workforce equipped with advanced, practical leadership tools that cannot easily be found anywhere else."

This milestone reflects the expanding international footprint and academic prestige of Mahidol University on the global stage.
🎤 "Having the Sustainability Vision theory permanently archived in an authoritative volume by Oxford University Press significantly elevates the Mahidol University brand on a global scale," stated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vichita Ractham, Vice President for Corporate Communication and Branding at Mahidol University. "As we advance our mission to rank among the world's very top institutions, having our homegrown, empirical frameworks endorsed by the world's leading academic publishers proves that Mahidol University is a powerful hub of global thought leadership. It showcases to the international community that our institutional brand stands for unparalleled academic excellence and profound societal impact."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
📢 CMMU Strategic Vision Theory Adapted by University of Cambridge for Groundbreaking Metaverse Management Study

BANGKOK, THAILAND — The College of Management, Mahidol University (CMMU) announces a major milestone in global academic influence. The prestigious University of Cambridge has recently integrated Mahidol University’s Strategic Vision theory into its pioneering research on strategic management within the metaverse.

The Cambridge research paper, titled "Metaverse meets management: a modular approach to augment management practices with augmented and virtual reality," has recently been published by the IEEE Engineering Management Review. Conducted by researchers Dr. Nicola Felicini and Dr. Letizia Mortara at the Cambridge Centre for Technology Management, the study explores how immersive technology mitigates severe cognitive limitations in executive decision-making.

The Cambridge team explicitly built upon Mahidol University's Strategic Vision theory to resolve critical organizational bottlenecks. Specifically, the study addresses the core challenge of "low engagement" by utilizing the theory on how structured corporate vision can function as an active "aspirational beacon" to drive "cognitive change" across corporate teams. Instead of relying on traditional, flat text statements that fail to engage staff, the Cambridge study maps the vision concept directly into an interactive Virtual Reality (VR) environment, allowing stakeholders to physically step inside and "walk through" a 3D simulation of their organization's future goals, converting abstract strategy into a high-engagement, emotionally resonant experience that ensures strategic alignment.

🎤 "This remarkable research dialogue between the University of Cambridge and Mahidol University demonstrates our shared commitment to translating complex management theories into real-world, digital-era impact, stated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vichita Ractham, Vice President for Corporate Communication and Branding, Mahidol University. By elevating Mahidol University’s strategic vision framework into immersive metaverse applications, we are proudly showcasing how Thai academic innovation can establish a presence on the global stage."

🎤 "The integration of the Strategic Vision theory by the University of Cambridge highlights the global relevance of our research. This achievement directly reflects CMMU’s vision to truly become the 'Wisdom of the Land' in management education, proving that our localized academic frameworks are creating valuable, high-impact solutions for the future of international business and digital innovation. In particular, the practical application of the Vision theory is highly relevant to today's virtual workplace, where leaders face the critical challenge of ensuring employee engagement from afar. By transforming abstract goals into an immersive experience, this framework gives global remote and hybrid organizations a powerful tool to maintain alignment and shared purpose across physical distances.", stated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prattana Punnakitikashem, CMMU Dean.

🎤 Adding to this sentiment, CMMU Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sooksan Kantabutra, the theory builder, states "our students have learned about this Strategic Vision framework since 2004, although the theory has been continuously refined over time. Vision is a shared corporate mental model that is very difficult to develop and maintain. Our students have learned step by step how to do so in class. For any management theorist, ultimate success means creating a framework that is inherently practical and capable of transcending its original field. Seeing our work on strategic vision applied by the University of Cambridge to configure immersive toolkits for the metaverse proves that robust strategy theories remain universally adaptable, successfully bridging the gap between traditional organizational management and next-generation virtual realities."

🎤 "Studying the Strategic Vision framework during one of my capstone projects at CMMU completely changed how I approach strategic alignment. Envisioning an informed future for an organization is not easy, but highly critical. Until today after over 20 years since I graduated, I still use what I have learned at CMMU to do so and drive employee engagement in my organizations. Seeing the University of Cambridge validate this theory through cutting-edge VR technology proves that the education we received at CMMU is truly world-class and future-proof", stated Mr. Warut Leeruangsakul, CMMU MM alumnus, Managing Director - CP Beverage & Food; Chief Executive Officer - Shanghai Lilin; Tech Commercial Director – AXONS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
📢 CMMU Sustainability Research Featured in The Emerald Handbook of Decolonising Sustainability

BANGKOK, THAILAND – The College of Management, Mahidol University (CMMU), is pleased to announce that its pioneering research of Assoc. Prof. Drs. Suparak Suriyankietkaew and Asst. Prof. Dr. Pornkasem Kantamara has been featured in The Emerald Handbook of Decolonising Sustainability: A Global South Perspective.

Published by Emerald Publishing, a world-leading publisher of impactful management research, this handbook is a landmark volume designed to challenge the dominance of Western-centric "Eurocentric" sustainability models. It brings together diverse voices from the Global South to provide a "pluriversal" roadmap for the future. The handbook serves as a critical resource for scholars and practitioners seeking to integrate indigenous wisdom, spiritual traditions, and localized ethics into global environmental and social governance.

In Chapter 4, titled "Eurocentric Sustainability," authors Saveena Patara and Prateep Kumar Nayak from the University of Waterloo—a prestigious Nobel Prize-winning institution—highlight the work of the CMMU team as a critical "pluriversal" alternative to Western-centric management models. The publication specifically cites the CMMU study, "Business ethics and spirituality for corporate sustainability: A Buddhism perspective," to illustrate how Eastern values can address modern global challenges.

The handbook identifies a significant gap in global literature, noting that spirituality and culture are largely absent from sustainability management literature and only 1% of current sustainability research focuses on spirituality. The inclusion of CMMU's work establishes the college as a world leader in this vital field, moving the center of knowledge from the West to the Global South.

"This global recognition from scholars at the University of Waterloo is a testament to the international impact of our faculty's research," stated Assoc. Prof. Prattana Punnakitikashem, the Dean of CMMU. "By integrating spiritual wisdom with modern management, our researchers are offering a practical, ethics-based framework for a more balanced future. I am particularly proud that students at CMMU have already been learning about this approach in our classrooms, equipping them with a unique, holistic perspective that is now being recognized on the global stage as the future of corporate leadership."

"For over two decades, we have worked to demonstrate that the 'Sufficiency Economy Philosophy' and Eastern spiritual values are essential global solutions," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sooksan Kantabutra of the CMMU Center for Research on Sustainable Leadership. "This inclusion in a key global handbook authored by scholars from a top-tier research institution like Waterloo proves that the world is ready to move beyond a singular Western lens. It is our pride that the core principles of King Rama IX's philosophy of Sufficiency Economy is featured, positioning CMMU at the forefront of this 'decolonial' shift."

"It is an honor to see our work contribute to this global dialogue," said Asst. Prof. Dr. Pornkasem Kantamara. "By bringing principles of moderation and the concept of 'having enough. not too much, and not too little' into management discourse, we provide business leaders with a motivational force that goes beyond mere economics, fostering a mindset of doing no harm to our planet and society."
